Spidie pics

I like snakes, but hate spiders! Cool pic though

I don't mind spiders, you can keep your snakes.

BTW, guys,m usually those big, cool looking ones are the girls, not guys.

Like this little girl:

I don't like spiders at all. They freak me out. Wood have been stuck to my shoe if I saw it :o

Count the legs!
I saw these all over in Northern Thailand (where I took this pic)
That is a 12in by 12in tile on the wall!!

Spiders kill other insects...plenty that cause more harm and illness than any little spider bite. In fact, unless you're allergic, there are very few species of spider whose venom and/or size of bite can do any more harm than a little itchy gum-drop sized lump. I was bitten so many times in Jungle School in Panama that I woke up every morning with some kind of lump.

You do yourself a disservice by killing them unnecessarily.

Very cool, I always wanted a pet spider even though I really don't like them. I could never figure out why I wanted a pet that creeped me out....weird.

Spyderco should do ad pictures like that.

I find spiders fascinating, but I still don't want them on me.

Cool thing about many of the jumping spiders- blue/green metallic fangs (chelicerae). Very pretty until you realize that you are seeing them because of a threat display. Jumpers are very aggressive, and knifeknut's picture shows the large, forward-mounted eyes that give them the binocular vision and depth perception necessary to earn their name. Really cool pics!

love spiders. here's mine:

You guys make me miss Curly Sue- she died a couple of months ago and is now residing in alcohol in my arthropod/ anthropology shelf.

(sorry pic is way too big, don't know how to shrink- I'll try to find another pic)

Add me to another who doesn't get indiscriminately killing any animal, let alone a spider keeping Dermestid populations down in your house, among other things. (not PETA, not judging, I hunt but don't kill anything without reason so don't get it).

Found this one on the side of the house while visting family in SC. The little one is the size of a 50 cent piece. The big one is slightly larger than the size of my hand.

I was out back the other morning doing a little sharpening in the nice weather when this little guy decided to try and get a free lesson while sitting on my stone. I was going to turn him into a smashed pile of goo but he looked kinda cool and decided to take a pic.

Thats a jumping spider. They have the best eyesight of the spiders, and seem to be the most intelligent.

If I ever had a favorite spider, (like that'll ever happen), it would have to be those jumping spiders.
The little suckahs have big brass spider 'nads.
They are like the chihuahuas of the arachnid world. They think they're a helluva lot bigger than they really are.
I once had one jump on me after he got tired of me messing with him.
He had me right where he wanted me.
If only he could have wrapped me up in silk.

When I lived in Japan I came home one evening to find this...

Takako031.jpg

I walked through the front door, switched on the light and saw it there. I just about jumped back out of the door! We don't have anything like that in England so I was a bit concerned how fast it might move and if it was poisonous.

There are very few animals that I would kill for the sake of it, so I caught it in a glass, slid a piece of card between the wall and the glass, and took it outside.

I wish I'd kept it because I'm sure it ate the cockroaches.

I wish I'd kept it because I'm sure it ate the cockroaches.

A friend of mine went to school in Arizona and was over someone's house when he saw a tarantula wander by. When he informed his hosts they told him that they kept several and let them wander around the house to control the cockroaches.

Now there are people who are comfortable with spiders.
