Spidie pics

I had one of those jumpers live in my pickup for a couple of years when I lived in TX.(warm winters)- Started about the size of a dime and got to be about quarter size. I would park beside the outdoor light at nite and leave my window down for the bugs to come in. It always ate well. I was surprised it lived that long. I didnt tell the new owner of the p.u. when I sold it.--KV

I absolutely detest spiders, fortunately we do not have to deal with the Recluse out here however we get plenty of these little bastards

You and I both.

There are a ton of BW's at my work this time of year , I have a kill on sight policy towards them. ( and every other spider aside from the Daddy Long Legs which for some reason I will either let live or put them somewhere away from me ! )

I'll take cockroaches any day.. :)

Neat pics though guys.

that black and red looks like an Australian redback lol...except the red hourglass is on top.

Awww he is kinda cute, Unlike camel spiders which are but ugly, my fear of spiders has lessened with age, still dont like large spiders but the smaller ones i actually tend to like.

I dont understand people who are afraid of snakes, and i certainly dont understand fear of bats they are cuddly little things.

The only animals i truly hate are crustaceans and scorpions, i dont even like to kill flies, if im not going to eat it i will refuse to kill it. I find animal abuse to be more detestable than violence towards people for the most part, but then again i am kind of desensitized to interpersonal violence.

Here's a couple good sized spiders that ran across the water:eek::eek: to check us out in the BWCA.

Scary fast on land and could just sit under water, kinda took away the urge to swim.

I feel the same way you do about the spiders (in our house only the largest ones get escorted outside). I think the fear of bats comes from the (incorrect) notion that they're flying rodents. I'd bet that most people who are afraid of bats are afraid of mice too.

I'm right there with you on most of what you said, but... crustaceans? The majority of crustaceans that most people interact with are seafood -- shrimp, crabs and the like. Did you mean that you don't like the taste?

another one from a hike a few weeks ago. i was looking for firewood and flipped this piece of wood over to make sure there's no snake underneath it before i picked it up. out pops this fella:

All this talk of spiders is making me hungry. Mmmmm. Fried spider:
From the article: “I cannot go through Skuon without having a few spiders, I love them so much,” he said, as yet another crispy tarantula disappeared into his mouth. “They taste a bit like crickets, only much better,” he added.
"...Crispy on the outside, gooey on the inside..."

Thanks for ruining my breakfast, lunch and dinner for the next week or so, Joel.
I might need therapy after that.

Heh -- my pleasure. It was the "gooey on the inside" part that did me in. I was thinking that I could probably try one of those until I read that part.

To bring things back a little on track, I saw one of those little jumping spiders this weekend. I took a few pictures, although none will be anywhere near as good as the original poster's. However, what really got me was, when I got my camera too close to the little guy, it kind of reared up to make itself look more threatening. I know I'm anthropomorphizing, but all I could imagine was it saying to itself, "Well, that thing is about 100,000 times bigger than me and I can't outrun it, so I may as well try intimidating it." It did look intimidating too, through the macro lens, until I reminded myself that it is about 1/4 the size of a pencil eraser. Then I thought it was kinda cute.
