Spine taping a lock to induce lock failure?

I was helping my uncle gut his house to redo it years ago. I grabbed my Gayle Bradley from my pocket to cut something by a doorway. It's been so long I don't remember exactly, but I had to pull up hard on the knife for a second to get it out of whatever I cut, and I smacked the spine against a diagonal beam near the doorway. I was glad it passed that spine tap test.

That is the only time I can think of where a lock not failing for a spine whack was a benefit for me, but it was useful that one time.
