Hey guys, though this might be fun.

If you've got the time, and arent lazy ;), were gonna do a spot check, head out in the bark yard, and see what you can get going with whats on you right now. Or, lets see what you've got, and what you could do.

The goal would be a fire, then anything else you can come up with is a bonus. How prepared are you really?

Im going out, so ill see you guys in a bit.

I've got a 80 gallons of diesel and 25 gallons of gasoline. If that isn't enough I save styrene to mix up napalm. Napalm is a great BBQ starter. Besides those items we have a fire kettle and a BIG stack of firewood.

Fonly your tuff!

You caught me while I am at home surrounded be boxes upon boxes of matches and Bic lighters galore. But on my person I have a single key and a 1/4"X1-1/2" fine threaded bolt with matching nut. Not very conductive to sparks eh? Besides I don't have a back yard.

Here you go!!! I don't smoke, but carry a lighter. Am I insane? Maybe it's just for times like this.

i've got a bic lighter, and my swiss army OHT.

can start a small fire easily, plenty of brush around me, i have old paper receipts and business cards in my wallet to help that fire going.

shelter would be a quick lean-to built with deadfall and covered with spruce boughs which i can saw off with my OHT.

guess i can try and turn my belt into some kinda sling for hunting the squirrels around me.

my shoe laces can be used for snares.

if my lighter runs outta fluid i can take the fuzz off my socks and try to catch a spark on them for a fire.

i've got cargo pants on, so if need by i can cut off the pockets and use them as bandages or some sort of field dressing to stop bleeding from injuries,

use the pockets on the back of my pants to gather wild fruits (i have plum trees in my backyard)

take the leather from my wallet and cut it into strips to help hold up the shelter. either that or dig up spruce roots and use em as lashing.

theres a river about 20 minutes walk from me, i can take the key-ring off of my keychain and bend it into a hook and use it to try and catch something.

smash open this laptop i'm typing on, take the battery and some wires and try to create a electrical short in-order to get a fire going.

start working on a spear

take the shiny parts outta my laptop and use it as bait for birds (some birds are attracted to shiny objects)

use my glasses for starting a fire,

take some of the down outta my jacket as a fire-starter if need be

detatch the hood off of my jacket and use it for collecting rain water.

dig for worms and try using that as bird bait

take the elastic from my boxers and try to make a slingshot

um... thats all i can think of for now with the stuff that i have on me right now.

cheers

Cant go out to the "backyard" as I am work, but I have my Zippo with Z-plus insert filled with Butane and several knives. Guess I'm not too bad off.

I did light a fire in the fireplace. One match, one fire.

Am I a winner???

Ok, well, I was perfectly honest doing this, I didn't even check my pockets befor I went out. So, I got out there in the pouring rain, nasty mist and everything else and had this.

Now, as it was raining I needed some palce to get some shavings made, but as everything was wet, all I found was this block os 6"X6" that I turned over and covered with some cardboard.

After getting this Tiny pile to finally ignite,

I will share with you all the first of the two conclusions I came to. First is that giving the saw on a sak a chance to bite you, it will do so ;) :D

And two, I am now going carry a small pack of tinder with me everywhere, weither its in my pocket, or around my neck, getting a fire going in the rain with no tinder sucks :D

Ha! Bic lighter, alcohol prep wipes, Ka-bar folder. Umm, there is no wood in my backyard unless I burn my kid's wooden swing set/jungle gym thingie.

I don't smoke and I carry a lighter too (usually two, because one is none and two is one!).

I had to light a candle two weeks in a row at meetings in March when no one else had fire!

Great, I just get out of the shower, throw on a t-shirt, some boxers and the flanel jammys then see this thread. :p

I suppose I could go out in the yard and turn the knob on the gas grill 'til it clicks. "sssssssss *click* wooooffff" :D

Disclaimer:
The gas grill belongs to my wife. I prefer my beat up 'ol Weber charcoal grill.

But no tinder!!
Not picking I swear, more less joking around
This is an awaresness thead aswell :D:D
we need to carry more tinder, I cant believe I dont carry the stuff on a daily basis. In the city im in, theirs the city, then nothing. The largest building in this city of 45K is four floors.

My wallet if filled with paper and business cards. I used to carry a pj cotton ball in a small ziplock, but it kept leaking.

I took a piece of fatwood I had tested previously, cut it down to about 4 inches, and used my SAK awl to drill a hole in it. I then added this to my firesteel laynard so I always have tinder. These are in my wallet (T.H.E. wallet).
I also carry a lighter. My psk is in front of me, but I was able to start a fire with my wallet kit, so no need to open it,too. :)

Sorry, I did not bother. In my pockets right now I have a lighter and a .4x4" firesteel. In my wallet I have an 8x10" piece of wax paper folded up for tinder, along with a couple business cards. On a paracord necklace I have another small firesteel. No, I do not have any idea why I have 3 firestarters on me. The big firesteel is my newest addition, so I just threw it in my pocket the other day. The wax paper folds up to about the size of 2 business cards.
