Spot Check!!

I have any number of goodies laying around my junk area in the laundry room leading out to the deck. A box of fatwood, cotton balls, snap containers and commercial match safes with fatwood and vaseline soak cotton balls, lighters, Swede firesteels, a three pack of fat emerg candles, a couple of shaker flashlights, a few Mora's on para cord with Fox 40 whistles, a mag bar and Fox 40 whistle on my keychain etc. I've been up north during a power outage and it's no joke. It gets dark and cold really damn fast at night during -30/40 winter nights.

Yup, I know what those temps are like, and that darkness you speak of. :D

Sitting here with my current EDC, which is a Camillus WWII issue utility folder and a bic lighter. Wearing boots, so have cordage. Have plenty of dry cedar chips and a small white birch just the other side of our yards boundry, so fire and shelter are handled. :D

I would be in trouble!:D

As of right now I am wearing red gym shorts and boxers with a beater to cover the upper body. Attached to the shorts I at least have my TOPS wolf pup.:p Maybe I could strike some rocks together and get some lint on fire. It wouldn't be so bad if it weren't 40 degrees out..........

Erm, I'm currently stark naked; that makes it quite a challange.

I supppose I could try rubbing two nuts together to creat friction...

Within arms reach though, a fire would be no trouble.

Don't say I now have to wear a kit in the shower... I suppose in a waterproofed bag on a neck cord... I could even use the bag as a flannel I suppose.

Hmm...

well im not going out side but i have a zippo a bic lighter and a matches book on me right now

and the odd thing is that i also dont smoke

...In my wallet I have an 8x10" piece of wax paper folded up for tinder, along with a couple business cards... The wax paper folds up to about the size of 2 business cards.

Cool, I like that idea a LOT.

Like many of you, I EDC a good folder and a LM, and always have at least one Bic on me. But the only tinder I always have is a pack of smokes!! And maybe a couple of dollar bills if it's right after payday :D

You can use waxed paper for tinder? As in the stuff you can buy at a grocery store for baking? (I'd go outside and try it but just got home from work and am beat)

Yup, same stuff. I don't carry any, cause I keep forgetting to get it when at the store.

Everyone saw that toilet paper trick w/ the firesteel? A piece of wax paper works the same way also. I wrap a small piece around the saw on my Wave, and use the back edge to scrape the firesteel. The waxed paper can get water on it, but cannot get crumpled up under water.
