I don't work in the construction industry, and although I live on a croft, I tend to use (like many before me have mentioned) the right tool for the right job. However, I use all of my meagre handful of GECs and haven't forced a patina on any of them, I just grab whichever knife takes my fancy when I get up each day and use whatever it is that is in my pocket when I have need of it. I don't really think too much about it.

The forum knife was, of course, unwrapped on Christmas Day and still looks fresh as a daisy.

Here are two of mine. You can see I haven't really used the pen blade on my Whittler yet. Click the pic to enlarge.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1388330613.010526.jpg

This #55 is only 6 months old, but it's been my non-stop EDC since the day I got it. It's my constant companion. Usually I also have a second traditional folder with me, but this one is ALWAYS one of the two.

I've been gawking here a lot this year. It's one thing I've noted, that most pics of these knives show them immaculate. Is it just because so many here collect and leave 'em in their tubes? Or, are you all simply anal about maintenance, LOL?:D

This question comes up every now and again. As you have seen, the actual answer is that most folks here use their knives. But they usually photograph them as soon as they get them so they can show them off to their friends. So, what you mostly see is photos of brand new knives before they get used.

I use a subset of my knives. I also like to keep them well maintained. They will pick up the signs of wear gradually, but I will be working to resist it. It's part of my enjoyment of the hobby, just like some others enjoy getting their brand new knives to look like they've been carried 20 years, in only a couple of months.

I usually buy a bunch of a pattern if I like it but may only use 1 or 2 of them. I like to take pics of the knives when new and usually post those. I usually take updated pics of edc knives after a few months to show patinas and scratched bolsters etc. and then use that pic until it is replaced as well. Knives that don't show use well, like ones in 440C, I might not bother taking updated pics for.
