Ethan recently announced the Spring Gathering, and that thread got a little sidetracked with banter and typical light-hearted revelry. Here what our host with the most said:

I am looking forward to seeing everybody in early May...... This is one of the most beautiful times to be in the Smokies....... Bring a chair, Comestibles, and drink...... Limited tent space but, plenty of trees to hang from......There will be contests, good food and better conversation..... Those who want to increase skill levels should post their wants and we will talk someone into doing a class.... Good times coming......

Ethan

P.s..... I provide the meat for Friday and Saturday nights ......Sides are pot luck...... Breakfasts are pot luck and communal...... If you have dietary issues you are probably gonna be on your own..... The group always tries to accommodate.

Pps...... If we get lucky and sell the land or the land and house I will have to find an alternative spot.......

E

So anyhoo... here's an official sign-up thread. Stickied and official and everything.
Please give a shout-out with number of folks, shelter types, pounds of meat products you're bringing, etc.

I'm in. probably hammocking -- SWMBO is staying closer to home so she can fed dogs and go running without fear of ground hornets.
(OTOH, there is a quart of Braggs in the kitchen now)
not sure how many pounds of meat products, but there is the possibility of plum mead and plum butter....

In. Yep.

Hammock this time around. Only one of me. (i think)

EDIT: Going to have to cancel, family stuff. Sorry all.

I'll be there, swingin'. I will bring some knives for people to beat the dickens out of, and yummy food-type treats. I'm also trying to talk Miss Angie to come hang out with us on Saturday.

How many pounds of meat I'm packing is nunya damn bidness. Wait... what?

I'll be there with my little tent. :). And I'll bring food - as far as community food goes, maybe someone should tell me what is most needed. Or I'll just bring bacon, other breakfast stuff etc.

I'm interested in coming, might even be a beckerhead by then.
I'll bring some beer and whatever food the group likes since I'm not much of a cook myself.
Would probably sleep at home since I live between Maryville and Vonore but might tent it, depending on weather.

Looking forward to it, sounds like a good time.

My wife and I will be there. We'll have my big ugly tent.

Myself and tentatively the missus. Maybe the boy. But definitely the dog.

Beer, sausage/bacon/eggs/taters and other simple basic staple foods are always welcome  I've only been to a few Gatherings, but I'll tell ya this much: half the fun is breakfast... and I've never cooked a darn thing while I was there. Yet I always seem to come home fatter...

Everybody just offers up whatever they've got, and there are always some highly-skilled people who happily cook it all up on the coolest outdoor grill/bbq/firepit thingamabob I've ever seen. There's usually at least one character who bakes some biscuits in a cast-iron Dutch oven, too. It's pretty dang awesome!

Also, beer. Did I mention beer? Beer is welcome, too. :D

Pretty much anything by Yuengling goes over well. Especially the Black & Tan. There are a couple regulars who love it, but can't get it in their home state... a guy with foresight and a knack for haggling could probably barter off a case of that stuff for almost anything.

Suggestions for food. Having been to each gathering thus far, I can say there are some pretty standard options.

Meat. The more different kinds the betterer. I think the record for breakfast is five pounds of no less than five different kinds of meats.
Taters. Preshredded or cubed are handy, plus if they are frozen they can double as ice to help keep your cooler stuff cold until needed.
Eggs. Bring as many as you feel comfortable bringing. We use upwards of 24 per breakfast typically.
Veggies. We typically don't get a lot in the way of veggies, which is a shame because there are a ton of great options there. Salad fixings, grillable veg, etc...

Breakfasts are fairly simple, just a mixture of whatever breakfast stuff we have. Lunch is usually whatever you happen to have handy. Dinner, it ranges. Everyone kicks in for each meal typically, donating food to a giant dish or making a specific side dish. If there is anything you are particularly well known for cooking, there are not many things we aren't interested in trying.

Better yet, two big bottles. Or else TinyDancer will get ya!

Bear in mind its a Gathering, not "lets see how drunk we can get"-fest.

Righto. This is a public forum, and folks should respect the host IMO.
Back on track with sign-ups?

I have been absent on the forums as of late but would love to come to this one. Just myself and a small tent if there is room.
