Great photo of your's my friend . I also have the 1975 Schrade repro but it is certainly not as nice as your's . I also have the Schrade with the original Delrin covers . When you put the Schrade and the Schrade Russell next to each other , you can see that for every dimple in the delrin cover on one , there is one in the same place on the other one . Both are well made sharp edged cutting devices . I might just post them tomorrow ??? As an aside , your Grandaddy shown is much thicker and heavier than a Case Grandaddy . Carry them in good health Sir !!!! Oh yes , I still have my box too .

I see what you mean. Understandable for the "saw cut", but the smooth, too?DAY 6 :
1975 Schrade Russell commemorative Russell Barlow and Schrade Filigree Barlow

They both are pretty decent knives but I too would have preferred Saw Cut or Jigged .I see what you mean. Understandable for the "saw cut", but the smooth, too?
Schrade could have done better. Perhaps make the Russell's covers look more like "ancient bone" or used a jigging pattern used by Russell.
I guess it don't/won't matter to those that don't have both to compare side by side.
They look like descent knives.
Wow, you’ve got some real beauty’s there!I'm really enjoying following along

Mea culpa! I hadn't given much thought about the bolster size of my Day 5 Moore Maker boy's knife. I'll take it out of the rotation for the month (and consider getting something else to replace it...)* Important
There are a few scattered posts of bare-head jack knives ....... with no Barlow to be seen.
I love jack knives and a Barlow is a jack knife ..... but ..... many jack knives are not a Barlow.
Take a look at yours and see if the bolster is roughly one third the length of the knife or on a grandaddy, about one fourth the length of the knife.
I won't call out any individual posts due to my laxed rules and not wanting to embarrass anyone.
Barlow defined by Case :
This traditional jack knife pattern dates back to 18th century England, and the popularity it enjoyed overseas as a hard-working and affordable tool option eventually brought it to the United States during the mid-to-late 19th century. Its design meant that individuals from all walks of life could enjoy the diversity and utility of the Barlow, no matter the trade or occupation.
The Barlow ('009 pattern) was undoubtedly among the first patterns ever manufactured at Case, and the pattern has remained a historic favorite among knife fans.
The knife's extra-long bolster on the pocket end and its 'barehead' cap end gives the Barlow its distinctive look while helping to preserve the knife's overall integrity over years of use. A wide variety of handle colors and materials and varying blade configurations, including Spear, Clip, or Clip/Pen blade models.
That's what I was waiting for! I saw your post about this knife on the Buck forum. It's a beaut!Day four, let’s add one more!
My new arrival was waiting in the mailbox when I got home from work on Friday. I’m super excited for this Camillus Buck 332. If I’m not mistaken, it was a run of 900 for SMKW in 1999. I don’t know how many were yellow, and how many were black. They also made 900 model 331 Granddaddy Barlows that year that were also available in yellow and black, but also brown bone.
How many folks have a Buck 332 or 331? I would love to see them.
It wasn’t as thin and light as the Buck 704 I usually carry in my suit coat pocket, but I’m committed to this 30 day Barlow challenge and it rode in my pocket just fine this morning. It is interesting how much thinner the Camillus Camco Barlow is than the Camillus Buck or the Imperials. I’ll have to get a picture of that one day this month.

Irony. It's too much for words. Beautiful.Hi Boattale. I don't follow?
Thanks Dale !Wow, you’ve got some real beauty’s there!
I used a blue shop rag and lacquer thinner and just rubbed it off. The part that didn’t come off right away must have just needed to soak longer and be scraped off. It was really easy it just took some elbow grease.Mea culpa! I hadn't given much thought about the bolster size of my Day 5 Moore Maker boy's knife. I'll take it out of the rotation for the month (and consider getting something else to replace it...)
Day 6: The lighting's not the best for capturing its chatoyance, but the wood really pops in the right sunshine. This is probably my favorite Case Barlow - out of 3. Not a huge sample size. Also, that might change if I could figure out the methodpat9198 used to clean the billboard off his redbone. Fingernail, you say?

I always thought a short-bolstered barlow was just an example of the reserved nature of English and German design sensibilities. The main thing for this thread is to have fun with it ...... to be an enjoyable experience. A fine Case Barlow for you today.
Case clearly knows what a Barlow is.
It really doesn't help that Boker and A. Wright keep calling some of their bare-head jacks a Barlow ......... it might be a marketing ploy ....... but it muddies the water and causes confusion for people new to traditional knives or just new to Barlows.
You guys need to stop confessing !!![]()
