Spring into Spring with a "Barlow a Day for Thirty Days"

Here we go my first Barlow and first forum knife.

I think you will agree its not a bad way to start... 😁

Day three, for me!

Here are the other two of my Grandpa Abby’s Barlows. Providence, RI Imperials. They are both identical, except that one has three patent numbers on the smaller blade, and the other does not.

Cracking photos, like they are on tip toe. ❤️

But then again Beagles are a good match to anything!!! 😂😂
except maybe Bears, Honey Badgers, Wolverines, and Raccoons in water.
(RIP Lucy ... she went after a raccoon that was taking a swim. ☹️🥺)

I sure miss all the Beagles (also the Bassetts and Labs) I've had over the decades.

No Pets (other than Gold Fish and spiders natural to the house/area) allowed here, so I probably won't get another fur baby in this "life".

It is hard thinking back on past pets.. They are/were family.. Their lives are so short that we gotta make the best while they are with us..

Day four, let’s add one more!

My new arrival was waiting in the mailbox when I got home from work on Friday. I’m super excited for this Camillus Buck 332. If I’m not mistaken, it was a run of 900 for SMKW in 1999. I don’t know how many were yellow, and how many were black. They also made 900 model 331 Granddaddy Barlows that year that were also available in yellow and black, but also brown bone.

How many folks have a Buck 332 or 331? I would love to see them.

It wasn’t as thin and light as the Buck 704 I usually carry in my suit coat pocket, but I’m committed to this 30 day Barlow challenge and it rode in my pocket just fine this morning. It is interesting how much thinner the Camillus Camco Barlow is than the Camillus Buck or the Imperials. I’ll have to get a picture of that one day this month.

You beat me to it. I was going to post mine but I can't find it. It's around here somewhere.
Anyhoo these two for Day 5

Day 6.

What was I thinking? Has anyone ever heard of wooden Sunday? I should've waited and posted this one on Wednesday but these are what I've been sporting today. Full transparency.

So - I've got a GEC Northfield DIW 888222 lamb; refined, elegant, Bill Howard demonstrating his unique brand of straight-faced whimsy - that's a known quantity and moving on... okay, admittedly, this isn't my best Barlow. Not the worst either, though. It's a modern production Taylor's Eye Witness.

Best feature: Weird stamped bolsters stamped with, to my eye, what appears to be the exact same stamp they used on the tang - and right above one another! "Low effort" you say? Maybe! Totally weird? Yes! I can dig it!

Worst feature: The blade is pretty wobbly. Not a deal-breaker though. And it's not very sharp, mea culpa - but to be fair, it didn't come very sharp and that ain't my fault. Oh, and the stainless, that won't ever patina and just looks kinda perpetually grungy. Ugh. I wouldn't want to use it for anything that requires a whole lot of precision but if I need a whole lot of precision for something (it hasn't really come up...) I know that disposable scalpels come pretty cheap!

Most boring feature: The covers look like they was made from a wooden chair leg from a 1970s-era elementary school classroom. Sometimes it's hard to carry this knife because looking at its covers makes me want to take a nap. This is not the knife I'd take to a fancy Sunday BBQ, fortunately or unfortunately, I never get invited to those!

The Takeaway: GEC should make more lambsfoots. Modern Taylor's Eye-Witness makes some questionable decisions both in design and fabrication. That said, it cuts, and if I had to root around for something in the dirt with it - I wouldn't think twice.

I'm really enjoying following along 👍
