Spring into Spring with a "Barlow a Day for Thirty Days"

You’re a better man than I am! Instead of a knife in the clover my head would be planted there and my wife would be calling 911! 😜
Ha! She certainly had plenty of time to call 911. Around mile 11, my wife started picking up the pace and beat me home by about 15 minutes.

Day 20: This one has grown on me. When I first got it, I wanted a wood handled Barlow from Case's vault run in 2019. I wasn't taken with the color at first, but I love how the sun hits it!

Day 15

An Ancient on one of the new, high-tech, extreme efficiency, handheld, Daylight Containment Vaults.
"Not a joke." 🤔

Since ancient is how I feel for a couple of days after beginning the ludicrous savings program that our government by the people imposes on each of us annually, I wanted portability of those precious savings. So I picked up one of the finest handheld Daylight Containment Vaults money can buy. It was a bit pricey at $15 but so much less cumbersome than those floor, table and overhead models we all have had for years and so very convenient with the push button opening.
Look for an in depth review around the time of the next winter solstice. ;):)😁
More patter thamn the Chinese army wearing flip flops....😂

Day 18

Lazy day, phone calls to family this afternoon and some light reading this evening. Boker Barlow integral copper with desert ironwood and N690 to keep me company. Re-reading the book as I'm not sure how much will still apply to my post-processing as I use a monochrome camera for my B&W images now instead of converting color images.

DAY 20 :
Yesterday I posted a single blade Taylors Eye Witness in Rams Horn . Today I will show the 2 bladed one that I have in OX HORN with a worked back .

Day 20

Similar proportions, vastly different priorities. I love both of these knives, and it was only obtaining the Remington Granddaddy Barlow that ended the Case BackPocket in Jigged Buffalo Horn and S35VN's probably record run.

From an execution perspective, the Remington wins, hands down. Easy to open with positive snaps at all positions, exceptional blade to handle length ratio (the Remington actually has a longer blade than the BackPocket but a shorter handle!), firm lockup, perfectly inletted and pinned shield, and IMO, incredible sawcut jigging.

The Case is great but the action is a little mushy at all positions but closed, the spring is slightly recessed at all positions, and IMO the covers should have been buffed more, or the jigging technique refined, as it came with lots of "fur" - for lack of a better term - in the jigged areas. Also, the shield wasn't installed properly at the factory (kinda sunk in at an angle) and fell out shortly after I received it (I epoxied it back in straight). That said, it has a lanyard hole (bittersweet really, as it appears that the overall height of the blade was reduced to accommodate it, and I would've welcomed a taller blade with the attendant improved geometry), which I like, and the S35VN steel demonstrates that Case is willing to modernize some aspects of their catalog without going full "modern traditional" with screw-together construction. Bonus points, Case put a great blade finish on these - almost like a real patina.

I wonder how an ancient Roman would've interpreted the branding on the BackPocket's tang? Hmmm... 🤔🤣

I seen those two X's looking me right in the eyes ....... similar in size ... those 2 ........ I love both of them !  😍 😍

Day 20

Two in my pocket today as the one I was planning for today is a borderline barlow 😅

Made by Queen, the Due South barlow has a bolster that is ‘sub-1/3 of the handle length’ but longer than most typical jacks. To be sure I qualify for the post, carrying another Camillus Barlow…Happy Sunday all.

 🤣 That was pretty smart thinking to include the Camillus. Thanks for making my "Spring forward Sunday" just a little bit easier. 🤣
No need to know if I would have sounded the "not a Barlow buzzer." 🤔
Two nice jack knives there !😍🤔🤣

Clever 🍻

One of my first knives as a kid was a Barlow. I think we all had one of those tin shell Colonial Barlow.

Some really fine lookin’ examples there folks.

I’ll have to wait till I get back home to PA from Myrtle Beach this week but I’ll join the tread and post my daily pics.
