Day 19
85°F and overcast in Miami today. With the humidity, it feels like we skipped spring and went directly to summer. Went to shoot some pool with my GF and her father. He beat me twice, although I have to admit that I wasn't playing for keeps (he's 82 and could use the wins more than I), but he is damn good - and not just for his age. Took the Remington Granddaddy Barlow with me.
Although not as scenic as his,
Johnnythefox
inspired me to include some B-roll shots for a little context and extra flavor... ahem... flavour.
These are the signs posted as you're heading into the pool hall. You might think the pool hall is in a bad area, and you'd be half right. All of Miami is pretty much a bad area, however, the pool hall is located directly across the street from Florida International University - not the best area, even by Miami standards, but definitely far from the worst we've got:
The prohibition on firearms and concealed weapons is due to the pool hall containing a bar. I took my knives in, of course, as only a person with violence in their heart would consider a slipjoint pocket knife a "weapon."
This one, posted outside the pool hall, confused me a little bit:
Is that all the time, or only when the floor is wet?
In any case, it seems to be more of a suggestion than an iron-clad rule, as there were plenty of people partaking very near the sign. A few of them seemed to be Miccosukee Indians, who were competing in a pool tournament held at the site. Maybe they were trying to calm their nerves? It's ok though, the floor was very dry.
How about another pic of that Granddaddy Barlow?! Ok, quit twisting my arm!!
