Do any of you guys own this rifle? What do you think of it?
Stainless.jpg

yes there are those who own it, i think they like theirs....i had one, sold it, hate myself for it....22 hornet over .410 was a beast...god i wish i had it back...

The only hesitation I have had with the rifle is that the trigger seems weird. How does the rifle shoot? Is it as light as it looks?

If you can get your hands on one, get it! They are no longer being made, but I think Springfield will eventually bring it back out (keeping my fingers crossed because I'd like to get stainless version).

The trigger isn't hard to get use to. I some some issues with adjusting my iron sights (the .22LR peep)...it's fixed now, I just have to get it back to the range to dial it in. Last time I was there, it wasn't zeroed, but I was getting squirrel sized groups with the .22 and the .410 patterns (#4 and $6 shot) were excellent at 25 yards. Still need to do some slug and bucksot testing, but so far, it's a great little gun. If you want to put an optic on it, make sure you order the mount from Springfield (they have them in stock) as it is grooved to all the iron sights to be flipped between the peep and notch.

I looked on gun broker and they are bringing a pretty penny. They had one that was in really ruff shape for around $250. New ones that came with scopes are at $550+

I do not own one but I have held and shot them a few times.

I am not a fan of it for two reasons. First is the trigger. I didn't like the feel of it and I know that eventually I would get used to it but it just didn't seem right to me. The second thing that bothers me is the skeletal build of it. It seems like it would attact dirt and grime into it and be a PITA to keep clean.

If they release it again I would like it if it was designed similar to the Henry Survival 22. This way you could have a single shot combo rifle that fit into it's own hollow buttstock.

I've got a stainless one in .22 Hornet. It's a lot of fun. I can hit a bowling pin at 100 yards with the iron sights. A few friends and I tried to shoot trap with the .410, but it didn't go very well. Still, a light, handy package. The simple design makes it easy to keep clean. Just hose it out with WD40, and she's ready to go.

For what they do, they are great. A 4 1/2 lb folding rifle/shotgun that could be stowed in your backpack, ready to blast whatever animals you stumble across, as you cruise along a forest path.

The CZ marked ones are excellent. The Springfield Armory(?) made ones were not nearly as good, in terms of accuracy.

My CZ mfg'd. .22H version shoots sub 2" hundred yard groups, with any old reload. It accurately and decisively lays the smack down on all small game, without destroying much meat ( I use bulk Winchester 55 gr. FMJ's).

My impression of the .410 barrel is that it was intended for blasting stationary animals, that you just didn't feel confident in hitting with the rifle barrel. I've tried wing-shooting quails with the shotgun barrel. It worked, but clearly, was verging into the realm of a stunt.

Anyhow, if you find a CZ marked one, snap it up.

I have heard that there are problems with the M6 regarding the point of aim between the two barrels. Maybe Erasmus or Rock6 can address this.

I just recently got a pack/truck rifle, but I wanted a little more oomph than .22 or .410. I chose a Kel=Tec Sub 2000, which is a folding pistol-caliber carbine. Mine is chambered in .40 S&W and accepts Glock 22 magazines. When folded, it is only 16" long and weighs only 4 lbs empty.

15+1 rounds of .40 S&W. When sent through a 16" barrel, this round approaches, and sometimes exceeds, the energy of a .357 magnum. I've seen many people post 2-2.5" 100 yd groups with the factory sights. Granted, this means going for head shots on small game, but it also opens up the option of big game.

Here is a pic of my M6, had it for about 4-5 yrs:

Minimal_kit0001.JPG

This i a pic of it with a minimalist kit.

I made some mod's/improvements to it:
- hammer extender
- took off trigger guard
- painted rear of front sight & rear of peep sight black
- under-cut front sight to allow "shadowing" for better view in bright light
- put a detatchable sling swivel to the butstock
- made a 1" tubular webbing strap and put 3 folding knife sheaths on it that
contain: folding knife, Silva match case/compass, AAA maglite, flint/steel,
and extra .410 shells

ADDED : Another, better pic of my M6:

I shoot CCI mini mag HP's for the .22 barrel usually, but also carry CCI Shorts if i need stealth. for the .410, i carry 2 3/4" and 3" shotshells in #7 or #8 shot for hunting , and #3 buckshot shells for defense. I have squirrel hunted with both rounds (.22 & .410) with great success.

So, my opinion of the Springfeild M6? Truely an awsome "Multi-tool" of the gunworld, wouldnt sell it for love nor money.:thumbup:

The rear sight flips between two positions, so you could tune it a bit if it wasn't right. Mine has been fine.

The M6 is one of the best survival rifles/shotguns you can find. I love mine and wouldn't sell it for any price! Well, a million bucks would get my attention. Very durable, built like a tank and totally practical.

Maybe if we all shoot an email to springfield armory, and ask them to bring the M6 rife back, maybe they will?

On the question of barrel regulation:

I zeroed the peep sight for the rifle barrel, to be dead on at 100 yards. This gives a dead flat trajectory, from point blank all the way to well past 100 yards. Since you can frequently get to within 100 yards of whatever you intend to shoot, this is a good move.

However, the rear sight is an "L" shaped piece of metal. The rifle gets a nice small peep (yes, possibly even too small for hunting in dark forests) sight. The shotgun is the other leg of the L, which consists of a coarse V notch. If the barrels aren't properly (luckily?) regulated to shoot together, you are somewhat out of luck, though this isn't the problem that you may think it is.

My stainless example has the sights set favoring the rifle barrel. The shotgun barrel prints 6 inches to the left at 25 yards. I merely memorize the hold over, and easily correct the shot pattern onto the target. This system doesn't bother me at all.

Personally, I use 2 1/2" Winchester AA #9's for the shotgun part.

The M6 was made by CZ, and imported by Springfield. CZ is still alive and well. If Springfield doesn't care to fool with it, maybe an importer like Century Arms would be interested. They just need to see the demand. I'd definitely get another one, if the price was reasonable. Around $250 would be good.

i heard (but am not shure) that the .410 barrel will also shoot .45 colt.

You Cannot Shoot .45 out of the .410 barrels. i think a few were made to fire that, but most cannot, barrels are not thick enough to handle the pressures.

If you have one of the special ones marked for that then you can, but those i dont think have been made for a long time and are very rare.

These were the NEW MODELS that were being developed before the whole program was scrapped:

I think that they were gonna make some of these .410 / .45 L

sad really, i really was drooling over having this in the folding stock model! --------- Eric
