I started the allopurinol last Monday and there doesn't seem to be any improvement yet. Soaking my foot in epsome salts and hot water, using rice hot packs, popping anti-inflamatories, keeping it elevated when not in use, etc.....
The only 2 items on the list that I still consume are high fructose corn syrup as it seems to bee in everything, and wild game. Never liked beer, so it was removed from the list 40 years ago. Red wine and mead are my alcoholic drinks of choice, but I only have 1 or 2 drinks per month, so my intake is already way below the recommended maximums.
The only thing I regularly consume that has high fructose corn syrup in is ketchup. I've eliminated virtually all other items with HFCS. I'm down to 1 or 2 Dr Peppers a week and ketchup.
The only wild game I eat is venison. No hog, javelina, ducks, pheasant, quail. I believe that my cholesterol levels are so good because of shifting to the leaner venison over store bought red meat. Last cholesterol readings was 183 total and all versions (LDL, HDL, Triglycerides) were well within the "good" limits. My doctor said I was in pretty good shape for an old, fat bald guy. He said I needed to work on that. I said "I can mayb fix the "fat" part, but the "old and bald" are permanent.
I've even cut out hamburgers from Whataburger. I've substituted the grilled chicken sandwich for the burger.
As far as alcohol goes, everything I've read says that all alcohol is bad, but that beer is the worst and wine the least bad. Kinda like do you want to be shot with a 45 or a 22.
