I put my Mint Shivworks Disciple on the exchange a few weeks ago, and a fellow who goes by "Sputnic" emailed first. He offered me $235 instead of the trade, we got everything agreed upon, and I sent him the knife. After three weeks wait to hear whether he'd receieved the knife, I checked the tracking number on the certified package I'd sent and discovered that he'd had the knife for ten days. I tried to get in touch with him (PM and email) to find out about the money order he'd promised to send me, and got nowhere. Don't trade with this guy. He's mail-fraud-tastic. In retrospect, I should have seen this coming--there were red flags aplenty. The name on the address he asked me to ship to didn't contain his own first or last name, and he first belittled the trade I'd tried to do (I wanted an Emerson mini a-100 for the Disciple) --he tried to high-pressure me into trading for a knife I didn't want and then did the whole "You're in DC, man? I hear that's rough. You must be a tough guy, brother!" routine and bragged about his concealed carry permit.
More fool me.
But.
I'm not concerned about the money at this point. Through a certain amount of finagling, I have his home address as well as two of the other addresses he uses for scams like these. I have over twenty emails back and forth affirming his intent to buy the knife and his assertion that he had sent the money order and that he'd get back to me when he got the knife. That information and other information I'm not going into on a public forum is going to every interested police agency that will give me the time of day. Secret Service, Postal Inspector's office, Reno Police Department, et cetera. There are a few more, but I'm not checking my list right now. I don't care about the knife or the money at this point, although I expect to get one or the other back eventually. Stubborn, meanspirited bastard that I am, I am devoting one hour a day to the ultimate goal of losing him his carry permit and, with a little luck, his freedom.
One hour a day doesn't sound like much, but it adds up. I can have a serious conversation with a representative of a relevant police agency in an hour. I can fill out two paper forms and send them to the feds. I'm going to do my one hour a day for as long as it takes to get the justice system to squish this oxygen thief under the Vibram soles of their boots and lose him that permit. It's my new hobby.
So. If he wants to make right, that's cool. I'm starting this hobby Friday morning, so he has some time. But I don't see it happening.
More fool me.
