I bought one of those little aluminum o-ringed capsule shaped screw together lighters about 1 1/2 inches long online from a link off this forum and really like it. The fluid doesnt seem to leak or evaporate at all. Carries easily in a PSK. Works well. Problem is I want several more and I cant remember where I got it. Does any one have that link? Thanx--KV

Contact forumite 'oregon'. That's where I got mine. I love 'em too - going to get some for stocking stuffers I think.

I just got a supply of these from Oregon. He was fantastic to do buiness with, got them to me really quick, and followed up with me.

I cannot say enough good things about getting these from him.

Just some food for thought, I made these out of some regular spy capsules and ferro rods. The ferro rod and striker are held to the spy capsule via plumbers putty.

This one is really compact. All the ingredients fit inside the spy capsule. The striker on this one is very, very small, but has been tested and is functional.

These both work fine and when all is said and done, the bigger one cost me about $9 to make and the smaller one a bit cheaper around $6. I realize that there is a product (strike force fire starter) out there that combines these same features, but it is rather larger in comparison and have been discontinued. Why pay for something when you can have fun and design your own.

I received several free chrome colored capsules like those from medical company that promotes their medicine..they are not so common but why wouldnt a 35mm film cansiter work also?

Man, that is just pure genius.:thumbup:

Thanks, I just though is was practical to have a bit of tinder with my ferro rod. Its to bad I don't have a bunch-o-cash to manufacture them and I'm surprised that a company like "light my fire" hasn't included a hollow handle for tinder storage, it just makes sense to me.

I probably should have mentioned that the tinder in the capsules is dryer lint, looks like crap, but great tinder.

The spy capsule is nice and compact and IMHO, more reliable than a film can. I could see taking one of the long ones and using a little JB Weld to mount a flint down the side with a chunk of hacksaw blade and tinder inside.

IH8U: I love those, now I gotta make one of my own. Were do you get the spy capsules from, and what is the diameter of the ferro rod you used?

One thing to note about the spy capsule lighters is that the round bottoms on some preclude them standing up on their own like a candle. I think the striker wheel is a little bit bigger on oregon's (flat bottomed) lighters as well - better for numb fingertips !

Like Mike said, he's a great guy to deal with and he ships them out quickly.

Awesome idea about the firesteel. Good job !

I own one of these and can't get it to work. I'm using Rosonol lighter fluid, the wick is completely soaked, and the striker throws a shower of sparks. Well built and very neat ... the flame is nice as well (I light it with another lighter). I can't however, get it to light on its own, and until I figure out why not, it's a completely useless piece of junk.
