Im thinking about preordering a Balance from yourcornerstore for $108.48. My only question is the MSRP for this knife is about 200$ so what would happen if when the knife comes out it ends up being more than $108.48... Ive never preordered a knife so im not 100% sure how this works. How do they truly know how much it will be.

In my experience any time I have preordered a knife and payed the pre order price, I have never been charged more. If you have any questions about it , email or call the store.

Do you have much experience with online purchasing? It sounds like you may not, which is not a bad thing. Just a bit odd in this day and age I guess.
You should be pay the price indicated at the time of the transaction. YCS is a good place to buy from, they sell out really fast though. A store cannot charge you more after the initial purchase is made unless you:
1- Authorize, in writing additional funds
2- Already have as part of an agreement. This is unlikely though, as if you do not have the money to buy something you cannot use a "lay away" option.
With 99% of online stores, the price you see is the price you pay. YSC is NOT a ripoff ebay seller.

600-800 carbon fiber ones according to Eric Glesser. After that they will release a stainless steel model with integral liner lock.

It looks like it is going to be a Seki City made knife with VG10 and Carbon Fiber. Based on the small size, $108 from YCS seems like a reasonable and fair price. I am pretty sure that YCS has already ordered them from Spyderco and knows what his cost will be so the price should be correct.

I have dealt with him before and he has always been fair to me so I would not worry about it. You should just order the knife.

Yourcornerstore would not be my first choice to preorder a knife from. Let me start off by saying that I have ordered quite a few Spydies from YCS and their attractive rock bottom prices. all the transactions have been great except for 1 where they were stated to have it in stock and they didn't. I have heard other not so pleasant stories all related around low stock issues.

So my suggestion if you want to pre-order the Balance to do so from a more solid dealer such as New Graham Knives, Knifecenter, spydercovt.com. Stay with purchasing items that they usually have a large stock of or give them a call directly and ask about their Balance shipment ahead of time

Some of the issue is that YCS does not actually stock several (or many, or even all?) of the items they sell. The use a "drop shipping" method, in which your item is shipped from a distributor directly to you once it is ordered.

Due to the fact that their inventory is not local (but in a warehouse somewhere else), YCS cannot tell you for certain if an item is really in stock with certainty if the inventory becomes low. I have had 2 instances where this has caused me headaches, and it took over a month to get my credit card refunded by them in one case.

Since these experiences, I do my best to deal only with e-tailers that have actually have the knives they sell at their location. That way they can inspect the knives before shipping, if needed, and can vouch if something is actually in stock by way of a simple phone call.

Wow 108$ for the balance really? I was looking into this little knife because I love my cricket. I thought the price would be somewhere similar to that. Why does it cost so much?

The price that is advertised when you pre-purchased the knife is the price you will pay, no dealer should post one price to entice you to pre-order and then when the order is in charge a higher price.

It looks like it's going to be in the hands of dealers/sellers on 05/04/2010.

Can someone verify the specs on this one?

Yep that looks correct.

I think the initial handle material will be carbon fiber. That's only for the initial sprint run. There will be a stainless steel model released later on.

Thanks fellas. It just seemed really small, kinda keychain size.
The info I posted was from Knifecenter and I wasn't sure if it was accurate or not.
No listing on the Spyderco site. (might have missed it)

Is this a purpose built knife? As in is it made for a specific task?

Here you go guys. :)

In addition to his pictures, Wouter has also put up a video of Eric Glesser explaining the uniqueness of the Balance.

I was interested in this as something new, something different, but the price tag is just too great. Too much for a clamshell opener.

Just for comparison.
