Spyderco Collaborations

I hope we get the chance to try out another Spyderco/Gayle Bradley collaboration. Something completely different in design and blade steel would be very fun. Maybe an S30V or Carpenter Steel for the blade or of course S90V if the supply is available. Certainly manufactured by the same, elite Taiwanese company who is doing the current GB!

We have plenty of Cruwear (Vascowear) and CPM S90-V in our slab inventory. We don't currently stock it as sheet due to the low volume, but that could change if there is enough interest. Crucible Industries is committed to making these grades for the foreseeable future.

Now that is some really encouraging news. Thanks nsm.

Jenner,

We have another Anso in-the-works, his Zulu design and it should be more affordable. ...

Thanx for the thread, it's a good dialogue.

Anso Zulu design

I imagine a production version would not have the damascus...

It's nice to know it's available but I have to say sitting there not in sheet form won't make it easier to sell. Not many knifemakers are using slab.

If S90V isn't selling enough to make it worth having Niagara inventory sheet that tells us a lot about the knife making plans of the major knife producers.

Too bad. I really like S90V. Yes, I like vascowear too, but have given up hope of ever seeing a knife in it other than a custom.

I wonder if CTS 20cp is in stock in sheet form ready to go? I'd love to try it.

I'd like to see another Lum tanto folder. I believe it'd be one of a few high-end tantos at an affordable price. I believe Mr. Glesser has posted somewhere that Spyderco wouldn't be doing it though...but while I'm dreaming, VG10 or M4, lockback, Ti or micarta handles, black blade and full convex/deep hollow grind please :)

(Grind it like Balibalistic (check out the balisong sub) and I'm sold)

Not too sure about another Gayle Bradley collab. The Gayle Bradley I have, while outstanding, seems to sacrifice some comfort and convenience of use for strength-but that's another thread in itself.

Making another model with a different lock and more lightweight would be nice. Keep the steel please :)

Funny thing. The whole time I'm reading this thread I keep thinking, "I really dig all of Mike Vellekamp's designs. I wonder what it would take for him to to a collaboration with Spyderco."

Then it dawns on me, "oh yeah, that's right. He used to work for Spyderco. . . " So, maybe his influence has been felt in a lot of stuff that's come out in the recent past.

Even still, I really love love love the ergonomics and lines on his most recent kinves, and I can't help but wonder what some of them would look like with a Spyder-hole. But that's just me, and YMMV.

At any rate, Mikey and Sal, if you're reading this please know that you guys are both tops on my list of top-notch guys who make the kinfe community so exciting and fulfilling. Keep up the great work, wherever it may take each of you.

Why Infi? There are many steels on the market and many of them will perform as well or better depending on the area of performance needed. In blade steels, we are primarily concerned with 1) edge retension, 2) corrosion resistance and 3) toughness. Generally speaking we can get good results in 2 out of the 3. We haven't found many steels that can deliver high performance in all 3 areas,

Hi Sal: what is your take on the weakness of INFI - which 2 out of three does it provide? It would be nice to hear an unbiased, expert opinion.

Thanks,

Charles

Hi Joe,

We've got a 20CP in-the-works.

Robot,

Not likely we'd do something with Mike Vallenkamp.

Charles,

We don't use Infi and since it's a proprietrary steel, I wouldn't have much to say about it. I was asking for why someone was suggesting it.

I could be crazy but maybe Snody and carbon fiber handled fixed blade. Roughly 2.5" blade, neck knife. vg-10 or s30v works for me although I'm not picky in that regard. Something light that I can still get a full grip on.

I would love to see that.
