I have heard good things about both and bad things about both. They sound like great EDC's

I want to get one of both, But which one should I get first? They both have so many Pro's and not many Cons.

Spyderco produces a very good lock back. Never had a problem with their lockback or any other quality lockback. The Delica is a good choice, it is a good cutting knife and good steel. Does not take up a lot of pocket real estate.

The Delica is definitely the better knife. Check out the FRN Chapparel too.

If you don’t mind abit bigger a knife and really dislike the backlock you could check out the Manix 2 liteweight.

It's the Year of the Delica!

There are some really nice exclusives out there to snag right now. A couple with Hap 40 steel too. The V-toku2 sprint just came out recently as well. I have a few with VG-10 too that I like a lot. Need something fancy? Get the one with the titanium handle and Damascus blade.

There is a dealer out there that has some with very cool mods, altho I haven't tried any of those yet. Maybe later today...

I don't have a Tenacious so I'm no help there. I love the Seki City made classics.

They are really night-and-day different in size, weight, action, and to lesser degree, blade shape. I would start with the one that fits your most common tasks and buy that first. The Delica may cure you of your dislike for back locks. The spyder hole makes for easy one-handed closing that you don’t get on other back locks. Whatever you choose, do not judge one by the other. They really only share the spyderco logo and spyderhole.

I have the Sprint Run Delica with foliage green G10 in VG10 and the Tenacious in 8Cr13MoV. Owned both when they were first released years ago. Both are great standards, nothing fancy. Some personal comments on each:

1) Delica: The only version I like is with stainless steel liners and G10 or CF scales. No plasticky FRN for me; while being light, practical and durable, I feel it cheapens the look and feel of the knife. Not a big fan of back locks either. Back locks are proven systems but just boring in my opinion. On the positive side, if you are a steel junkie and CAN appreciate the differences in steel types, Spyderco does offer the Delica in a wide variety of steels. If you're looking at an FRN Delica you may want to compare it to a Benchmade 535 Bugout. Axis locks are fun to fidget with, plus you can easily upgrade the scales to G10 or CF offered by a number of 3rd party makers to really change things up. Yeah, there are 3rd party scales for the Delica too, but IMO they don't quite have the same effect as those made for the Bugout.

2) Tenacious: It's made in China and uses 8Cr13MoV, both features which turn off some buyers. Don't let them fool you. The Tenacious has been a big seller for Spyderco for a long time and for good reason. Build quality is very good, and the steel is very capable. I beat on mine for yard work for years and rarely clean it and it's held up beautifully. In hand, the Tenacious feels more substantial than the Delica. I much prefer the liner lock over back lock. It's not necessarily better, just more fun to fidget with. I also prefer the flow through construction of the Tenacious for easy cleaning. There are 3rd party scales available and they too can really upgrade the look and feel of the knife.

So my preference is to get the Tenacious first.

I have had a couple of Delicas and they are one of my favorite knives. They are small but have good proportions in both blade and handle length while staying light weight. I have never had any issues with the back lock on my Delicas or my Enduras.

You really can't go wrong with either of your choices though.

Check out the FRN Chapparel too.

Yeah, I can't think of any area the Chaparral doesn't beat out the Delica.

Choose the Tenacious if you need something to abuse. They have a lot more handle to hold onto and they're half the cost. I use my Tenacious SE in the yard a lot for things that I'd rather not use my precious Chapparal for (and my Manix 2 is up on blocks right now).
