Spyderco Delica or Tenacious?

Of those two, Delica all day. I recommend saving up another $25 and getting a Native 5 Lightweight instead though.

Per Sal, Delicas were designed for women . Just saying...
That wouldnt keep me from using my Spyderco Delica.
Doesnt bother me.
Doesnt seem to bother for example Mike Janich either.
Shouldnt bother you .... nor the OP.
To each his own of course.

The Delica is the better knife in my opinion. It also happens to be my favorite size of folder for EDC. Don't like back locks, there are lots of knives in this size range. Take a look at the Steel Will Mini Cutjack in D2 or M390. It's a flipper, but not an aggressive flipper. The M390 version is one of my favorite knives.

Not to turn this into a PracTac SD thread but merely to point out, that is a perfectly apable knife. Whether or not for whom it was designed, the Delica is an excellent EDC knife for most and an SD knife for others ..
or both.
M. Janich:
"The Delica is an outstanding knife that meets the needs of personal defense extremely well. I have been carrying two of them on a daily basis for about 10 years and train with them regularly (largely thanks to the fact that Spyderco makes a purpose-designed training version of the knife).

I also typically use a Delica in my "pork man" cutting demonstrations in which I use a target constructed of a pork roast lashed around a wooden dowel (to represent bone) and covered with numerous layers of plastic wrap (to replicate skin). I cover this with a leg feom a pair of jeans and illustrate that a single cut from a well-designed, properly sharpened three-inch blade will cut the target "to the bone," representing disabling that limb. This is demonstrated in this video on YouTube (which I actually produced for local law enforcement and never intended for the YouTube audience):

As for information on using a Delica responsibly, I recommend my video "Martial Blade Concepts: The Enhanced Version," which is available exclusively from Stay Safe Media:

http://www.staysafemedia.com/product.php?proid=83

It specifically addresses the use of small, legally -ermissible knives like the Delica as personal defense weapons, focusing on the idea of understanding their potential, understanding human anatomy, and using that knowledge to reliably stop an attacker."

I don't recall the Delica being designed for women.

But this was...

I'm secure enough in my manhood to carry such a girly knife. Just saying...

So what was your point anyway?

OP I'm with you on disliking backlocks. However I will say the Delica FFG and Tenacious feel like very different knives, the Delica is certainly more slicy, and the Tenacious is more comfortable for large hands and feels like it can take more of a beating (Sal said it's a budget/smaller Military). The Delica has unquestionably better steel, but for EDC that generally doesn't matter much. I also love the Tenacious for fidgeting, it has good action and the lock is easily accessible.

Ultimately though the Delica is the better knife, albeit pricier. I'll just say you can't really go wrong with either. Maybe start out with a Tenacious and then get a Delica later on, or vice versa. Tenacious makes for a good beater.

Delica all day. Just gifted a Delica to a buddy, thin blade stock, pocket friendly, good steel, the list could go on and on.

As far as the Delica being designed specifically for women, I don't know what Sal might have said, but in the book The Spyderco Story, by Kenneth T. Delavigne, it mentions that when the Endura and Delica were introduced they became best-sellers, and that:

"The expanded set of users included many women, for whom the low weight made available innovative modes of attachment to clothing. No longer were the boot, the waistband and the pants pocket the only place to carry a Clipit; now lapels, sleeves, shirt pockets, neckties and even undergarments became ideal locations."

This was referring to both the Delica AND the Endura. It says nothing about the Delica being designed and intended mainly for women. And even if it was, the Delica has proven to be among the best-designed single-bladed EDC pocket knives around. It wouldn't bother me in the least even if women were the intended market for it, and IMO, it shouldn't bother anybody else who actually uses one, either.

I'm in the minority. I don't like the Delica. The Tenacious is ok.

That being said, the Manix 2 and the Para Military 2 are two of my favorite knives ever.

He said it on the Spyderco forums. I could probably find it but I don't feel like it. For those of you who threw out Janich's name as if he's some tough guy, I'm not sure what to say.

….sigh...
I happened to mention Janich. I didnt 'throw out his name as if he is some tough guy.'
It was merely a response to your somewhat odd and misogynistic comment, that:

Dude, its 2018. Even if the Delica 'was designed for women,' it doesnt matter an iota.

We'll I took about 10 minutes to look and didn't find anything on the Spyderco forum confirming it. I found a thread where a user says he thinks he remembers seeing that the Delica and Endura were a his & hers knife pair, and Sal says the idea about two size pairings is accurate, but nothing explicitly that it's a women's knife.

Perhaps it was designed with women in mind as well, sized with the thought that a woman could easily carry it.
As James Y says above though, it is a great knife and a practical sized EDC for almost everyone.
