Spyderco Fakes & Knock Offs Info

By the way, I paid a realistic price for this Leafstorm... I would appreciate if some other forum member will compare his label with mine.

Don't judge a piece just because of a 1 cent bar code. Attention should be paid to the fit and finish, materials, coatings, and laser etching.

The only thing I can say about my Leafstorm is that the factory bevel was pretty gritty but at the same time shaving sharp. Fit and finish are otherwise really good.

I love this little knife, I just got scared when I read about bar codes and I went to check mine..

The barcode is just one way another is check the paper work .Look for misspelled words. Those are just things to look for that raise a red flag.

Hi Riccardo,

Welcome to our forum.

The Chinese counterfeits are a problem. But not all of the models are being copied so it's challenging. I would guess, and it's just a guess without having the piece in my hand, that it's probably ok.

For what it's worth I try to report any fakes I see as well.

I just got a Manix 2 in S110V off ebay but I doubt they are being copied yet.

Love it.

Hi,

I have just bought and returned a fake Dragonfly Salt of an Ebay seller. Now I want to buy a Tenacious of an Ebay bid and am very worried: how can I know it's legit? I have read this thread but you keep saying not all Spyderco models are being counterfeit, but going to Aliexpress.com you could find almost all models. Can't we buy from Ebay anymore?

Thanks, D

Welcome to the forum David. While there are still probably quite a few legit Spyderco sellers on eBay, I'd be inclined to say that unless you know which ones they are, it's probably safer if you just buy from reputable online dealers. I think that there are enough legit online sellers that finding one with decent prices shouldn't be too difficult. At least you'll have the piece of mind of knowing you weren't sold a knockoff.

The only reason I would ever consider buying a Spyderco off Ebay is to get an old discontinued model. Even that, I have never actually done, and instead just wait until I see what I want pop up here at BF. Any current production Spyderco should never be bought off Ebay in my opinion. Just go with a reputable dealer, it is that simple.

Thank you both for your reply. The problem is that most dealers in the US don't ship to my country and those who do charge too much for shipping. Over here in Israel there is very little verity and a Tenacious costs 120$. So I seek on eBay.

Davidka, I sympathize with your situation.

Not even good feedback can be entirely trusted. Some of the biggest crooks on eBay have 99-100% positive and are eBay "trusted" sellers.

If a seller is selling one fake, I would assume all he sells are fake.

I purchased two Manix 2 black blade (C101GPBBK2) knives...one each from two different sellers. The most striking difference is the amount of light reflected by the blade:

The one on the top IS a black blade but reflects so much more light than the one on the bottom.

Then the pocket clips are at different angles:

Finally, the letters on the front of the blade appear to be the same font but are just slightly thicker on one of them (and again, notice the greater reflection from the one on the right):

Any thoughts on whether one of these is fake? Is this natural variation? Is one from an older batch and the other from a newer batch? I can tell you which knife came from which seller, but I want to withhold that information so as not to influence the responses.

They both look real to me, possible production variances. I don't think the Manix 2 is being counterfeited...yet.

Lighter one is definitely fake, many things not even mentioned, other appears legit. You'll know when you sharpen it.

I don't believe the lighter one is fake. What makes you think so?

Are you referring to the Manix above? If so it looks the same to me.
