Spyderco/FArid K2 - Full Review and testing.

Thanks for another great review Jim. Am I the only one that noticed your name on the knife? That's a keeper for sure.

Yes, all 4 people that Spyderco sent them out to test have their names on them. :)

Fantastic dedication, and a great deal of work to carry out all that test cutting.

How long did it take to do the cardboard test?

As Roy Castle used to say "Dedication, that's what you need"!

I can only thank you for your dedication :encouragement:

Damn, we all need to chip in and buy you a beer or a tea.. or whatever you drink :D Though that Spyderco K2 with your name on it was part of the "thank you" from ... the community, yeah that's it... the community :D

Thank you for this review. You are stirring the dormant knife knut in me. I haven't bought a new knife in almost a year. I think you've convinced me that it is time.

I wanna say thanks too .......... I had one ordered just on your review alone.
It should be here tomorrow.

Jim, thanks for the great review. Mine just arrived today, and it is shaving sharp, tight, centered, a wonderful piece.

With the 10V at 63 HRc, I think this is probably the finest production knife on the market right now, and the trailing point will be perfect for hunting this fall.

OK , so the lock up is normal .........LOL
Mine takes almost two hands to unlock though ........ very sticky.
I could probably take it apart and polish the lock bar or something , but dont wanna make it worse.
Its brand new just got it , so I,ll send it back.
Thanks for the picture though .........at least I know thats regular.

I wouldn't do that.....

Just let it break in.....

You can do the pencil trick also until it breaks in also...

Mine broke in pretty quick, but then I did a lot of testing etc so I suppose it was faster...

djDawg, I completely agree with Jim. These were supposed to come tight. Mine came almost too tight. For some it might have gotten under their skin spending that much on a knife and not having it come smooth. I've seen custom makers that want a tight knife going out to break in as the customers prefer. Farid even gave instructions on how to adjust them. Personally I just used it for a couple days and went with the hard opening thing. I cleaned any oil out of it and did the graphite pencil thing but by then it was pretty much self adjusting. Now it closes fine and I didn't have to do anything to it other than use it.

I almost made it more complicated than it needed to be by attempting adjustment. I'm glad I didn't now. Ed Schemp sends his out tight to a lesser extent. He says it gives them a longer life. With this one with 10V, and that much Titanium I'm not worried about lock wear. It's a tank.

As a person interested in different knife steels, I really appreciate your reviews. Your experience in testing makes your recommendations very valuable to me. I don t take for granted the work required. Five hours of cutting is a real workout. Thanks Jim.
