Spyderco Flipper

:D:DNot too overtly fond of the blade shape on that one. Maybe Sal could try one like this:

I agree, the G10 lock stop looks a little off, but otherwise it looks fantastic. Throw some M390 or something similar on there and I'd be all over that.

The design has been prototyped, the steel has been received and tooling is underway.

That is awesome! Please let us know when you're able to discuss details (steel/size/price).

Either way, I think it's an awesome design..I hope they work some kind of bearing system pivot. I want that blade screamin out of the handle
Pretty sure the proto I handled at SHOT didn't have a bearing system pivot, but not to worry: the flipping action was superb.

Sal,

The prototype seems to me to be like a Rick Hinderer XM-18 3.5" style knife? Am I off base?

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,

They are similar in size and both have flippers. They're both Titan RIL's with G-10 front scales. Rick's knife has a finger choil and a "tanto" type tip. I would guess that many Titan RIL's, G-10 scale, Carson style flipper models are similar. What in particular are you referring to?

Sal,

Thanks for the reply. I did not realize that both trace back to a Titan RIL's, G-10 scale, Carson style flipper model. When I saw the prototype picture it just reminded me of the other knife. I believe the Rick had a "spanto" blade which is a combination of spear and tanto. His latest generation now has a "slicer" grind as well which is meant to appeal to the customers that want more than just the thick blade. This style knife seems to be very popular and I am sure Spyderco will bring some innovative steels and features to it. I look forward to everything you guys come out with. Thanks again for the information and the reply.

That just made the top of my list. Its a tip up RIL, with flipper, from Spyderco, what more could I want!
Thanks Sal.

I love it! This may be another one of those "must-have" Spyderco's (in addition to about two dozen others :p)
