Spyderco Gayle Bradley the knife everyone loves but...

i dont like the handle or blade shape and its also way to heavy. also dont care for the fact that its made in Taiwan.

Totally agree about the Chinese thing. The American people are cutting their noses off to spite their faces. The Chinese are most definitely not friends of the USA. Make no mistake, their goal is to completely dominate us, and they will use any means to do so if they can.
The american people have been duped by the siren song of cheap prices of goods manufactured in china. However, the unrealized cost in lost jobs and skilled labor force has been devastating for our country. We had the most highly skilled, most productive labor force in history and it was thrown on the waste heap so we could save a buck at Walmart. But now, we can barely find the skilled workers to make jet engines, guidance systems, CNC parts. Do out really think we should rely on china for that? Seriously?

If everyone in the USA would just choose something made in our country over made in China three times a month more than they do now we could bring jobs back to our shores and get america back on track. Its a choice. Choose america!

It's a little heavy and large for my EDC purposes, but I won't get rid of mine any time soon--it's just way, way too good of a blade for the price. The blade and handle are perfect for my purposes. And the CPM-M4 is just amazing steel (why would anyone care about patina if they are going to use the knife?).

Where are your clothes made?

DJK

Most of my clothes are not american made. But I do buy American when I can and have lots that is American made. Unfortunately there's not a lot of choice with clothes and many other items.

But with knives there is a lot of choice of where they are made. And I chose to buy American made knives only, because I can.

Choose america!

I don't want to turn this into a political discussion. But big hint: Taiwan is not the same country as the PRC.

Maybe I'd have more to say if the F&F on the Taiwan knives wasn't as good or better as those made in Colorado. Until that time, I couldn't care less where the skilled craftsmen making my knives were born. I love the GB, wish I hadn't sold mine.

Taiwan, like the USA, manufactures many, many high quality products.
I'm never deterred by the Taiwan stamp.
China?
Meh.

i don't own one yet. i have three spydeys that fullfill my sharpness needs. and while everyone might be right about the GB's positive features, i'm still not sure i want one. for one, i don't find its aesthetics that alluring. also, i'm starting to feel luekwarm about any blade less than 4 inches long. 3.5 just isn't enough knife to me.

Geography is hard. So is grammar. Maybe this is indicative of why we lose skilled jobs. After all, the Chinese learn both well.

It could be that no one but American union labor can afford products made by American union labor. But that's enough political b.s. in General Knife Discussion.

Been thinking about getting a Gayle Bradley.

If this is your view, why did you post the thread and say you were thinking of buying one? Clearly you aren't. Was your purpose to create a situation that would let you rant about this?

On knife discussion, I agree with someone earlier that the GB is one of the best Spydercos. It's worth well more than it costs. Dimensions are nice for a larger working knife (about the same as a Large Sebenza).

Well, thank you for your insults. Taiwan is the proc. You are just to slow to see it. Do you really think that Taiwan is truly independent? Really? Its just a matter of time. What do you think the new aircraft carriers and dozens of new guided missile destroyers they are pumping out are for? And after you explain that, you can give us a lesson on how their human rights record is really one of peace and good will. Maybe you can start with why they are allowing the murder of hundreds if not thousands of children in Syria?

Make no mistake as to why we are losing jobs to China. It's neither of the reasons you listed.

Tongue-in-cheek, obviously. I think quality is important, and the GB (as well as the other Spyderco knives made in Taiching) is a knife with exceptional quality. Frankly, that says a lot both about the quality of the production and about the precision and care Sal puts into what his American company produces. And I'm very happy to support them in their endeavor to produce exceptional products. I'll probably buy the GB Air too--the steel is better than nearly every other gentleman's knife around and the quality of production about as good as it gets, all for less than half of what comparable knives cost.

Huh? Sorry--not up on the latest conspiracy theories. In any case, Spyderco is producing some really good knives there. You should check them out. Or not. Whatever.

Actually I didn't know it was made in china, so I learned something of value by posting the question about the knife. Personally, I like the looks of the knife. It a beautiful knife with a cool blade. I could tell frn the pictures that the thumb ramp is too steep, but I find that with most spydercos. I will probably not buy one until I have the opportunity to see.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts on this knife.

Just so we are clear: Taiwan is not China or in China.

Like a few have mentioned on this thread, I didn't like the aesthetics of the GB either at first. I still find the thumb ramp too steep, but that's abut my only gripe. Quality materials, along with some very good tolerances and machining make it so much more than the sum of its parts. You would be hard-pressed to find CPM-M4, carbon fiber, beefy polished liners, pillar construction with polished standoffs, and 4-way clip mounting options for the price you can snag one for. If it was made in a little mud hut in some third-world jungle, I'd buy it.

The Air is another Gayle Bradley collaboration made in Taiwan, and it too is a very well-made knife.

It might also interest a few people to know, that traditionally Taiwan hates China. So you can rest assured that by buying Taichung knives you are supporting an American ally and not a dirty commy.

Dude; I understand the "on paper" difference between the ROC and the PRC. what you are not hearing is that the guys who have the bazillion man army, the PRC, make up the rules, and they will "reunify" the ROC peacefully or by force if need be. Personally, my money is on the guys with the guns, but you can say whatever blows your skirt up.

The Gayle Bradley is awesome but it needs to be worked to appreciate fully. I don't care where it's made, the quality is outstanding, as is the price tag. Go buy one... or two :D
(Or ten!)
