Spyderco Gayle Bradley: What's the big deal?

This is a great knife, according to every owner we've heard from. It's pretty large...and VERY heavy-duty. Depends on what you're looking for.
Sonny

It is not really a big knife, mid size at best. Military dwarfs it. But is heavy use and I knife to be proud of.

I don't think the Military dwarfs it. The Military has a slightly longer blade and slightly longer handle. I've compared mine side by side and really the GB isn't that much smaller.

Put it this way, the knife has only one flaw, and to some it's not a flaw. The liner lock bits your thumb and hurts if your one to play with the knife even when your not using it. M4 does not rust like people claim it to because it not stainless, It's CPM built which means water has a hard time soaking into the metal, because such a tight structure. Overall knife is extremely well buit, beautiful and has a extremely tough blade, making it more that enough of a blade to choose when you only carry one.

I read about what I buy, I do homework any purchases, I dont buy junk. If your curious if i'm am right, do your homework on steels.

C'mon, you're kidding us, right? Please tell me this is humor. :)

As for releasing the liner lock - I put the pad of my thumb on the hump of the release portion and it releases as easy as any liner lock I have or have used without biting me. I don't use the part that has the slight cut away, just the hump. I don't know why the liner lock release keeps coming up but that's just me . . .

Lets think. CF and M4 for under $150.00 from one of the top makers in the world today.........
No brainer.
Mine is so old its got solid liners.........
Not much to loose on this one. Its a steal........

for $130 you get an m4 blade, CFsales, over-engineered liners and lock.and then, it's branded with a famous name. even without the latter it's a bargain.

I stopped using mine, because I usually use my knives to clean up small spills (using billet steel's ability to soak up liquid). However, water has a hard time soaking into the GB which makes it a crappy ShamWow...

I feel that the Gayle Bradley is probably under-priced for what it is. I wouldn't call the price point "premium" when you consider its quality and materials. Mine has no play, dead-centered blade, extremely sharp, smooth as glass, and then you add in the premium materials; it's an amazing knife.

Although it didnt really need it having one of the smoothest actions out of the box (ball-bearing pivots included), I took mine apart not too long ago to polish the washers and pivot area. I was really surprised to see how over-engineered this knife is. You'd be hard-pressed to find a hard-use knife at this pricepoint that showcases a premium steel like CPM-M4 with polished liners and carbon fiber. I can't wait for the GB Air to start shipping!

I made a point to dip mine in a heavily chlorinated pool to test the corrosion properties of this alloy. Sounds stupid, but I had a hunch that these reports of high corrosivity were bunk. Wiped the knife off, blew it out with a stiff breath and stuck it back in the pocket...no rust.

More recently I was traveling and decided to put my custom CPM-M4 blade in the ocean Pensacola Beach (went swimming). Even the maker thought this was a bit much, but once again, I finished up, wiped the fixed blade on my dry shirt and no rust (that was a week ago).

Will M4 rust? Absolutely! But, If you give it a little care and hard work once in a while it will stay nice though.

Yes...I didn't polish anything in my no-logo GB user, but I did take it apart and re-lube with CRK grease. Omigosh, it's smooth.

I do believe water has a hard time soaking into cpm metal, because it has a tight structure. If anyone has anything to show that water has an easy time soaking into cpm metal, I sure as hell would like to see it, wouldn't you ? :D

...Or any other metal.

I ordered one off the auction site on a whim. Got a great deal on it nib. I was surprised at how smooth it is. The quality of fit and finish is outstanding, far better than a lot of other knives in the same class that I own. When I looked at the liners they were the full ones and mirror polished. Just wonderful finish on this knife. Add that to the m4 steel and a nicely shaped hollow ground blade and you have a winner. Looking at the shape of the blade, minus the spydie hole, it reminds me of the blade shape on a few of my older camp/boyscout knife blades only the GB is bigger. As for the corrosion issue, I have not had any problems with mine. But I take good care of my tools.
