Spyderco Military Titanium

Are you set on the Ti Millie? The G10 version is an ounce lighter, $50 cheaper, same blade steel, same lock strength, and has a grippier handle.

Also, people who have received the 2011 Spyderco catalog have mentioned there is a "fluted" Ti Military mentioned, so it sounds like there is an updated version coming out. I don't think there are any pictures yet.

If you search the spyderco forums, there are a couple pics of the fluted millie

I have the Ti Military and the Lionsteel SR-1, Sebenzas too and they are all entirely different knives. You really need all three!:D

Thanks a lot buddy....like I didn't have enough issues choosing my next blade:)...after seeing your Lionsteel SR-1 I now want one of those too!! :):)

I have no experience with G10?? Is it a synthetic material? I have always had either carbon fibre, steel or titamium handles so that is why I ask.

Hey all. Been searching around for an appropriate spot for my first post, since I did own one of these I guess this may work.

Had the millie Ti and ended up sending it back. Loved everything about the knife, I like a big heavy knife, except the lockup was poor. There are cheap $30 knives in my drawer that locked up way way better. I've actually never had a knife with forward and back blade play. I assume I received a bad apple because Spyderco does great work but for a blade of that price I wasn't about to accept it.

G-10 is a synthetic material similar to micarta. Its woven layers of a fiberglass type material that are compressed and bonded with resin. Great handle material, won't absorb moisture, chemically resistant, won't crack or warp. Its used A LOT.

Great to be in the Blade Forums!

G-10 is a synthetic material. Very grippy, resistant to chemicals, strong, and lightweight. Nice stuff, especially on the Military. I suggest picking up a G-10 Military.

If you've never owned a Military, get the regular G10 (orange!) version first. One of the best parts of carrying a Military is the amount of knife and strength you get at such a light weight. A 6oz. ti Military seems like it offers no improvements over the regular version, and in my opinion, the regular G10 feels better and shines over the ti version.

I had a millie for a while. I didn't mind it at all, but I don't like it better than my Gayle Bradley, and out of all my friends that I showed both knives to, the GB won hands down. Of course, they are knife aficionados, not knife authorities. I just don't understand why there's an extra 1/2" of handle that is totally unnecessary. For some reason that really bothers me.

^As mentioned above.

I would not recommend the Ti Military for a number of reasons:

-The Military is built around light weight and ease of carry, functionality in all weathers. Ti handles are noticeably more slick than G10 especially when wet, and it takes away the defining feature of the Mili-the breathtaking blade length to weight ratio. The Sebenza is a better example of a Ti frame lock, and the G10 Mili, a better example of a Spyderco, IMO.

For 350, I'd much rather recommend getting a G10/Ti/M4 Mili second-hand-the steel is a cut above S30V and you get a G10 slab. For about 220, get a G10 Mili and some custom scales (or a nice family lunch)

The "Military experience" IMO is best with the simple G10 version.

Good points, I agree, almost. :D IMHO the Military experience is best with the Carbon Fiber versions if you can find one.

Because the knife is built around being very glove friendly, and that knob on the end of the handle provides a very secure grip when not using the choil. Maybe you have small hands? ;)

The plastic Milis weigh 118gm. The Ti Milis weigh 162gm. The difference (44gm) equals about 1.5 ounces. The hybrids split the difference. I like the simplicity of the Ti model (less parts). I put an S90V blade in one Ti Mili and an S60V blade in another. Modular knives rule!

Jill, you're a bad influence. ;)

If you really want a Military, I'd recommend starting with the the regular G10 liner lock version. If you want a Ti frame lock Millie, then I'd recommend the M4 version, if you can find one for a reasonable price.

plastic? g-10 is related to plastic about as much as titanium is.

Last I heard G-10 is a cold lay up of fiberglass held together with epoxy (plastic) resin. I lump phenolics (micarta), Carbon fiber, mineral reinforced nylon (30% glass fill), and Valox together because of their similar densities and lack of resistance to heat and degradation when dropped on hard surfaces. I don't dislike plastic handles, I just like Ti better.

kurtras... MSRP = "conversations". Now you know :)

BEknives, welcome to Bladeforums, good first post.

Just buy the Ti Millie used, it's the best deal going for what it is, unless you get a Sage 2 which is great just small.

Anyways, I was looking at the Spyderco Military Titanium ~ C36TI for about $350'ish and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this knife??

Knivesshipfree have them in stock for $240 shipped. I see them for less other places, but are often not in stock. It is an awesome knife, I love it.
