Spyderco Military vs. Benchmade Griptilian

If you are considering a Griptilian check out the Doug Ritter Griptilian. I own 2 of them, they are really nice.

ive handled both and i own a Griptillian and i must say that the Grip is probably my favorite knife of any that i have (and i have too many:p)

Hey guys! I think that I have decided on the Pacific Salt. Thank you all for contributing, and I hope that some day I will be able to return the favor.

Good choice on the pacific, if you look to wave it before doing any grinding put a zip tie through the thumb hole. This can act as a wave!!!! much cheaper than getting a permanent mod and you might not like it!

Thank you for the extra pictures, that grind is truly good attention to detail! Has the regrind improved the edge holding significantly?

I think you chose well, jimbo. You'll not have any problems with rust; the lock is safe and simple to operate; the yellow handle will help you spot it if dropped; and the cost is a good entry-point into the world of fine cutlery.

I also agonized over my first, self-chosen quality knife. My first decent folder was a hand-me-down Cold Steel medium tanto Voyager with fully-serrated blade. I learned that tantos are pretty useful and that I really prefer plain edges :D

After learning all about the Voyager, I decided to get one of my own choosing; the Military was in the running. Ultimately, I went with a Griptilian in D2; five years and some knives later and that Grip is still going strong.

Your Pacific should do well. The relatively low price will allow you to find a quality, inexpensive fixed blade too  For outdoor use, a fixed blade is always optimal. You can use the fixed for hard tasks and the folder for food prep, whittling, and various fine tasks. Then, you get into folding saws, hatchets, multi-tools... :D

But, first thing's first - good choice on your first quality folding knife!
