Spyderco Military - Wow what a knife!!

IMHO, The Spyderco Military is the finest production folder ever produced. I have three. One in CPM D-2, one in S90V and one in CPM M-4.

The S90V and M-4 are my EDC knives. I've used them for everything from removing splinters from my finger, to field dressing an elk. (the geometry precludes them from being an ideal hunting knife, but they work quite well for that chore in a pinch! :p

Tip up v tip down doesn't interest me, since I immediately remove the clip and carry them in my pocket just like any other pocket knife. I have a M390 pre-ordered, and I'll buy one on any quality steel. I keep hoping for one in BU K390.:)

Ben Dover, the K390 thread is an interesting and informative one. Thanks for starting it. Hopefully it will lead to another millie.

I played with my first military yesterday and actually wasn't impressed.

I didn't use it to cut anything so I realize my opinion isn't as important as others, but maybe you guys can help me realize why they're so popular.

My complaints? Grind too thin (subjective and I know it), handle/blade ration seemed weird, it didn't seem like it'd hold up to be honest. Looked inside and saw very little steel. The guy at the shop hit it spine on a table and the liner let go of the blade. Then there is tip down only which seems strange.

Enlighten me... I love Spyderco and wanted to "get it" but I didn't.
Stephen just a heads up on the shop you went to.Hitting the spine on a table by the guy at the shop would make my jaw drop if I was you.Holy sh!!,that's like going to a gun store and seeing them dry fire a gun I'm interested in purchasing only worse.I wonder how many other times he's done that.Someone's gonna buy that knife he's abused, sure glad it's not me!:barf:

Well said Skyhorse...well said. :D

If I buy a knife from them it's always a fresh one from a box. The knives they display get finger f'ed all day by who knows who.

Rationally I know that the spine whack is a bunk test, but it's just disheartening to see a knife close up with not much of an impact.

I'm an Axis guy though, so what do I know.

I own the orange s30v military and love it to. I even take it to my job. I work at Victorinox :D

My plain jane S30V g-10 Millie - like yours - is what's awesome!! I love my Military - EDC - for any after dark excursion. :D

Ths S30V is a fine knife, no doubt. But if you haven't used the S90V and/or M-4, you have no idea of just how good the Military really can be.

And if Sal ever makes one from K390, that will take it to a whole new level.

Received my xhp military a few weeks ago,LOVE it. Wasn't the biggest fan of the brown handle at first but it has really grown on me, that and I friggin love XHP!! I've wanted a second blade in it ever since I bought the manix 2 with it.

That's awesome! I need to get something with that steel. And...it needs to be a Spyderco.

It is a VERY sweet knife, one that will be with you for a while. My sole complaint is that the tip is slightly thin and can snap if you apply too much pressure in a twisting motion. Other than that, one rides with me almost each and every day. One of the best folders for the money!

I agree... if Sal were to do a run with a flat-saber grind (like the Gen 4 endura before they ffg'd it), I would jump on one of those faster than you could say "Flat Saber Military" :)

i saw a military in the for sale section with satin/camo g10/s30v and snatched it up. i liked it so much, i pre ordered the m390 the day i heard about it.

for me, the "plain-ol" s30v (which technically is a "super steel") has been really great for my uses...and i cant wait for the m390!

Sadly us lefties are limited to the S30V version. I sure wish there was an M390 or similar model coming out...

When the M390 comes online, it will take the Millie to a new level. The S90V did that, and M-3 90 is a third generation PM steel, whereas S90V is first generation.

I am very much loooking forward to my preordered M390 arriving, but even more so to a newer generation steel like K390.

A K390 Millie would be in a class completely by itself. Even among custom folders.:p:thumbup:

well sadly, my dumbass lost my all black millie saturday night. FML. so i just ordered another one tonight. this time around i picked up the digital camo model w/ black blade. i have several quality folders, but none spark my interest as much as the millie. im still going to hope for a fixed blade model, full tang with a glass breaker pommel. (its nice to dream, right!)

but in the mean time, i been carrying my manix 2 sprint. all in all the millie is hard to beat for a cutting tool.

As a left-primary user, I have to strongly disagree. :) For me at least, and YMMV, the Military is very ambi-friendly. I own only RH versions (six and counting) because that way they're consistent in usage, and resale is also a lot easier if need be.
