hey guys

i am in the market for a new knife and while i was orginally thinking of purchasing a strider i cant really afford one at the moment

so ive narrowed it down to either a millie (g-10 plain blade) or an emerson CQC-7 in satin finish wit the wave feature

i use my blade for EDC duties such as opening boxes, food containers, and i also carry a blade because i work as an EMT on my campus, and lastly as a last resort tool for self defense

wat do you guys think

The Military has a more premium blade material and it has a nice belly. The tanto doesn't really offer much for your needs. Truthfully, you could open boxes and food packages easily with a $10 swiss army knife

For me, it's an absurd comparison.
The Millie has a way better steel, way better lock, and a blade that cuts way better.

If you really want a strider. I think an emerson is more like a strider than a Spyderco.
Both Emerson and Strider are known for kicking the heck out of them. Not that I've ever heard of a Spyderco breaking easily either, just sayin.

The Millie for me is too long of a blade for it to ever be a true edc. I carry it once in awhile but it is a big one! The wave is a fun feature too.

Get both! Sell the one you don't want :D

Both knives are outstanding!
For a utility folder, go with the Spyderco.

Great comparison. Both are great knives. I could argue with myself as to which is better.
In fact, sometimes I do argue with myself when deciding which one to carry for the day.

The Military is a big knife. I would strongly advise handling one before you make a purchase.

I prefer the Military / Paramilitary blade shape to the chisel ground tanto found on the CQC-7.

If you really want a utility folder from the Emerson line, I would recommend the CQC-10. That is an excellent all rounder, and also has the blade hole which many people prefer.

I don't think you can go wrong with either but I would venture to say that I think the CQC-10 is a more robust folder, particularly with regards to tip strength.

The new Emersons also have a very nice stonewash finish.

very good question, not an "absurd" comparison at all--the CQC7 is more manageable as an EDC, while the Military has about 4" blade. I wouldn't recommend carrying 4" blade around college campus, sorry to say.
Go with the Emerson.

I'm not a Spyderco nor Emerson fan, but in this case, I'd pick the millie. Yes, it has 4" blade, but it's really not that big even for me who have small hands. Fit and finish on Millie is just better than Emerson. Better steel, better blade geometry for general cutting chores, and it definitely works more smoothly. If it's too big for you, you can always pick up the Para-military.

For boxes and food containers I honestly don't think it matters. Which one would be best for self defense can be debated to death IMO.

If you want a truly definitive answer, ask this question in both the Emerson sub forum and the Spyderco sub forum. Compare responses. ;)

I really like the Benchmade and the Emerson versions I have. I do feel the old Benchmade version is better.
I tried the Military for months. It is too lightweight and feels flimsy.
