Spyderco Native 5 Lightweight S110v Blue FRN Mini Review

Mine was the same, after about 300 openings and a bleeding thumb, it's now pretty smooth! Just let it break in a little and it'll be fine!

Ok, been working on it. Probably won't continue to thumb injury though. Thanks and take care.

Thank you all for the positive comments I'm flattered.

....Mine is actually quite rough opening and closing, it's tight and the action is very jerky. I think I may take it apart and see if there are washers to be cleaned or something. Other than that the thin blade stock and fantastic steel take on all of my EDC tasks and I really enjoy this knife. I think I might be looking for the G-10 version when it comes out.

There are no separate washers inside the Light weight version, more like a molded smooth area that the blade slides against. Recommend giving the knife a wash and then oil a bit around the pivot with mineral oil and work it in. Should ease a bit and then ease more with opening and closing. Don't forget taking it apart can void the warranty.

Wow mine wasn't anywhere near that bad!

I took it apart today, there was at least one plastic shaving in the action. I gave it a nice wipe down and put some frog lube on the pivot and where the blade rides on the scales. It is much better now.

Great photos! I was all set to pick up the S35vn LW next weekend for a summer outdoor work knife - now I'm seeing this one as a contender. I'll be able to handle both but I've got to say you've made is one look very appealing...

Nice photos and review!
I prefer the LW version of the Native 5 over my G10 versions. I have the S90V Forum LW version though, and it doesn't have any stiffness issues like some mentioned.

I ❤️N5! I've found that a key part of maint. is to clean the surfaces where the back lock and blade tang rub. The easiest way is to close the blade and, without putting any pressure on the blade spine, press the back lock in. Using something other than paper (such as a sliver of chip bag or a sliver of a tyvec envelope), slide it in the gap created by pressing the lock. Allow the lock to close on it and slide the sliver out. Repeat the process with the lock pressed and not pressed. I also do all lubing of my folding knives with a similar sliver of material for pinpoint & minimal application.

I hate you guys!:)

I just broke down & ordered the Native 5 LW, blue, 110. This should fill the void for when I want something a bit smaller than my PM2 or Manix LW.

This is the last knife I'm buying this week.

I just received a Native 5 s90v with the maroon scales. This review was the key. WOW! they are nice knives!!

The N5 lightweight continues to impress me. It really outperforms it's size and weight.

Those photos are fantastic! I don't know of any knife catalogs with photos that nice. I have a S35VN Native, and it is a wonderful small edc. I sure have a S110V Native, but it sure would be fun to own!

Honestly guys, thanks so much for the nice comments. :)
Glad you like my review and photos. If they've helped you decide to go for a N5 even better.

vary nice review,i enjoy using the native 5's but have been holding out for the titanium fluted/S35VN for along time, just never bit the bullet!the FRN modal's are plenty strong for every day use,oh by the way wonderful photography work.

Zombie thread, I know, but I have to say thank you (or i hate you :D ) for finally making my mind up for me. I've been eyeballing the natives for a little bit now, and handled one at bass pro (s30v lw) a couple weeks ago, and loved the feel of it in hand, but just couldn't pull the trigger for whatever reason. Then I see this model. I've been looking for a new edc to put in my rotation to take a little pressure off my mini grip, and I think this will fill that role perfectly for me. Really nice pics, they were just what I needed to put me over the hump.

I've been eyeing them up myself - though I just can't help but think how bad these are screaming for a wire clip like the Manix LW I love so much. YMMV though.

grate review and some wonderful photos as well,i don't have this one!but own other native's with S110V and love this amazing steel, also have a walmart native i can actually flick!than you for posting.
