Spyderco Native 5

A very solid knife that has awesome fit and finish and takes hard use.
Definitely one of my favorites for sure.

Thank you guys.

John,
It is always puzzled me, why did you buy regular production Native5 after you already had the Forum knife? You do not like dark green?
Roman

Love the green - but I have a hard time making the mental leap to making the forum Native a user!!! :D :o

It is very good and beautiful user :)
I know, you want to try on recycle day :D
Plus, you have a spare, right?

Yes, Ultimate Cardboard Killer :D No spare of the Forum Native. :( Didn't expect to like it this much!!! But I do have a pre-order of the CF/S110V version, so I'll have that one coming in some time. That one might be the real user.

I really like the Native 5. I don't mind the finger choil as it adds a lot of control for detail work and makes it more comfortable for larger hands. It cuts like a laser and is very solid with respects to lock up. It's one of my favorite knives.

I'm looking to purchase a Spyderco Native 5 in a month or so, and I want to know opinions from those who have experience with it before I buy. Solid lock up? Does it feel small (I don't have large hands)?

I have the S110V Native 5 and it's a great knive. I love it's size and the choil, lock up is solid and feels great in hand. It doesn't feel small to me. It can feel more flat in hand compared to other knives, probably due to the width of the scales.

That's a great looking Native 5. Nice patina on the blade!

I must have gotten unlucky with mine. I have a couple of those older ones and the quality is rather lacking; the worst is the Native subcontracted by Camillus - horrible blade wobble. :(

I was a big fan of the Native III but never really took to the Native 4 as the ergos were not as good as a fit for me and I had an issue about the replacement of wire clip with the painted and boring Salt style clip. When the Native 5 came out I decided I was going to pass on it mostly because I was still pissed about the III to 4 version change. That is until the Native 5 EDCF Forum Moonglow was introduced and I then became a fan of the Native all over again. The Native 5 S110V Forum knife pretty much made up for that whole III to 4 version thing.

Just a quick update. Have had and carried my Native 5 for just under a week now and it is as good as everyone said. Fantastic ergo and enough handle for a four finger grip without using the choil, which was an initial concern. Lovin it. I might also add that I happened to stumble upon a like new chaparral Ti for 150 bucks.

Just received my Native 5 in the mail today - and it is already one of my favorite knives (might be tied for favorite along with my BM Axis Flipper/D2). I was surprised by just how much I like the Native 5's grind. I also like how this knife feels substantial without feeling too heavy. Was also very pleased with how smooth the action is - that was an unexpected bonus for me.

I also feel the need to say how pleased I am with the service from National Knives. Shipping was super fast - I think I received shipping notification within a half hour of placing my order for the Native 5. USPS was able to get it here very quickly (2 days! - YMMV) and when it arrived, I noted how carefully and meticulously the shipping box had been packed. Great prices, great service. I'm 100% happy with the knife and the dealer.

I have a Native from 6-7 years ago--believe its S30V steel---no idea what gen it is----I absolutely hated it---carried it twice---stuck it back in the box and put it back in the cabinet.

Ordered it blind from Walmart for like $40 without ever seeing or handling one---other than the pictures online.

What makes the Native V any different?

Why are the Natives so expensive and hard to find now? I remember a couple years ago they were only $50 and very easy to get. I mean, I see they are using G-10 and better blade steel now, but I would be happy with an FRN, VG-10 full flat ground Native for $50 that was actually possible to find.

I have the S110V forum version. It's a great knife, love the texture on the green G10.

My nitpicks with this knife: feels square/boxy in hand; blade off center (haven't figured out how to fix it yet).

From what I can tell about previous versions, the 5 is steel linered G-10 rather than frn, and using s35vn. I think the one you ordered from wal-mart was the original native of gin-1 steel. The native line has come a long way since.
