I think the one you ordered from wal-mart was the original native of gin-1 steel.

His Native has S30V

What makes the Native V any different?

Steels and ergos are fairly close. Everything else is different. Native5 has lined G10 scales and full screw construction. Native is FRN handle, not even pivot screw. The lock on Native5 is completely redesigned. Blade grind is totally different. N5 - no swedge and FFG. Native has huge swedge and hollow grind. Jimpings are different. Native5 has a little shorter blade to be legal in jurisdictions with 3" blade length limit.
And IMHO as of today 2013 Forum Native is the cream of the crop.
