Hello, All!

I was wondering which people preferred, Spyderco or Benchmade? I have never owned a Benchmade, but I have owned 3 Spydercos in my knife experience. The reason I go for Spyderco is because they are cheaper, and in my opinion cooler looking. Which do you carry, and why? I have been thinking about purchasing my first Benchmade, I'd like to hear which you guys like better?

Thanks,

~Ben

I have some of each brand, and I can't really say I like one better than the other. But I also would say I don't consider them the same type knives... sort of comparing apples to oranges.

My Spydercos:
Cricket
Delica ZDP
Native
Native IIID
Pacific SALT
Manix

Benchmades:
Mini-AFCK
AFCK
943 Osborne
710 D2 McHenry/Williams
Mini-Barrage
AFO

I think you should definitely pick up a Benchmade 940/943 or 710 and see for yourself!

Stay sharp,

Benchmade does a really good job with small, thin, and light knives. In particular, I think the 94x series is among the best knives that Benchmade has produced. I carried one exclusively for several years.

I've also become enamored with Spyderco's medium to large sized knives, like the Military and the Paramilitary. What is especially nice is that they do sprint runs and exclusive runs fairly frequently, so you can try out different steels and handle colors and materials. The blue M390 Para 2 has been a huge hit:

They're both awesome! Just depends on your taste in locks and blade shapes. I've had at least a dozen of both, and the only one I still have is a benchmade 720 (but I guarantee I'll buy another spyderco before too long). I really do love all of the aluminum scaled benchmades with the axis locks.

If you're looking into buying a new Spyderco check out the Manix 2 W/ Translucent Blue Scales. I've carried that for about a month and LOVE it, for a knife that is only 3 ounces IT IS A BEAST!

Your answer is yes, as in both. Both companies have made well-designed knives from quality materials for years. Both have different emphases and strengths. I can't imagine limiting myself to just one of these companies.

Im pretty much on board with everybody else here. Both companies make good products its more just your personal prefference. I like spyderco more personally but thats not to say I think they are supperior in quality. What
I do think spyderco does better is provide a quality product with a reasonable price.

I've always felt that Spyderco offered more in the $100-ish range than Benchmade, but have always had a couple BMs on hand like a variant of the Grip or 900 series. They both sell a crapload of knives for a reason.
Ah hell. Let's see a one time, limited run collab of axis lock Paramilitary's and see how they sell. Yeah the purists will see it as an abomination but the knife would create more threads than an Indonesian textile factory!

I vastly prefer Benchmade, if only from an aesthetic standpoint. I think the spyderhole is one of the ugliest things ever put on a knife, took me a solid month to decide to keep my Spyderco Southard.

Both for me too. I love my Southard more than any other knife these days. I also dig on my BM710 and Ritter mini-grip. Both companies have great designs. I do think that Spyderco hit it out of the park with the Southard.

Interesting reading material there.

Spyderco has a few more models I lile right now, but Benchmade still makes great knives. Hard to actually pick one or the other.

I too thought that spydercos were ugly and cheap looking. But after I bought my PM2 my opinion quickly changed. The feel of a spyderco in hand is unmatched by any other manufacturer, at least in my opinion. Great ergonomics in most of there models ive handled. But benchmade gets A LOT of things right, from HT to deployment of big blades that have auto like speed. Both companies make outstanding knives, and either one would serve you well.

Spyderco. Why? Loyalty. Not in the fan boy sense, but because a spyderco was my first knife, and they're all I've been buying since. I believe Spydercos have better price for the quality of each piece, and I also enjoy the interaction the company has with its costumers. Benchmade may have these things also, but after my first Spyderco, I just kept on going with what worked for me, and haven't seen a reason to change.

I like Spyderco by far. I have a Delica, paramilitary 2, Manbug, Sage 2, and Southard Flipper. I owned an Endura. I have not been disappointed with one Spyderco yet. I love my Southard and I think I will for a long time. I have a mini grip and was kind of disappointed with it. I think I should have gotten a drop point as I can't get the Tanto sharp. I like the knife itself though. I personally like spyderco better though

You are making me choose between my two favorite knife companies. I do have more Spydies just because of the price point. I also kind of like the Spyderhole more because it is fun to play with, but then again so is the Axis lock. Since you already have Spydercos, I suggest going with the Benchmade Griptilian. It will keep you entertained for hours
