Spyderco or kershaw?

Growing up with Benchmade, I was never really into Spyderco until recently. What I realized after handling them in the field is that they are meant to cut and they do it extremely well.

Same here. Definitely give Spyderco a chance! They are great

I don't like the spyderco look. Plus Kershaw is local to me, and I get my Kershaws cheap at their annual sale. So I vote for Kershaw.

O.B.

Just so you know, only like 3 catalogued knives have 3cr and they are all gimmick knives like the Decoy and Cinder.

The only time they make 3cr versions of other knives is if big box stores demand it so they can sell it for cheaper. Think of it as the opposite of a knife dealer ordering a special run of knives in a better steel.

Also, the OP needs to get a Natrix since they are out now.

Where are you seeing the Natrix in stock? I've only seen people offering preorders so far.
I've been looking forward to getting my hands on "the greatest knife of all time".
no do not get the natrix

I've noticed it squeaks a little bit. Should I put some wd40 in?
its best to disassemble, clean out, and apply a good lubricant like grease, blue lube, diawa, or even mineral oil vs wd40. but wd40 will work until you do that. wd40 is mineral oil after the mineral spirits evaporate, but its a bit icky at that point.

It is my understanding that Sandvik came up with 14C steel because of Kershaw. Is that true?
sandvik probably said were developing a new steel, and Kershaw probably said let's do an exclusive, or, they said we like the current sandvik but can you make it more corrosion resistant and sandvik developed 14c27 and they made a deal for exclusivity. knife companies don't generally make or develop steel.

Where would be a store to get those torx kits? I live next to a decent sized city, but I don't want to wander around looking. Would a basic hardware store have them?

I always hated Spyderco until I got my first one as a mistake. I had about thirty Kershaws. I sold all my Kershaws except for my Blurs. If you want a Spyderco get the Tenacious or the Efficient they are both great knives.
you will probably get the Spyderco bug. If you want to stay with Kershaw get the Blur. As far as I'm concerned the Blur is on my top 5 list of EDC knives under $50.00 You can't go wrong either way.

The best Torx set you can get on either of the big guys online is the Wiha. They don't strip as easily. They are German made and a little but they are the best. "Invest once use twice"

Spyderco is the way to go, IMO. Kershaw also makes some decent knives, but I'm a Spydie nut from way back...have owned MANY...never a bad one.

It's been said plenty already, but Spyderco all the way. I don't hate kershaw. My first decent (non flea market crap) knife was a kershaw leek when I was 14. Carried it around for 7 years or so and not too long ago tried kershaw's division/branch ZT, bought a couple and love em. Kershaws might be a little more fun at times, but spyderco is the absolute best for the money of any company and by far the most practical, super comfy ergos, well thought out pocket clips, and starting at 50$, you're pretty much always going to get higher end steel like vg10, s30v etc. I recommend starting/ trying out spyderco with a delica or dragonfly.

This tenacious seems pretty good so far. Not as well built as my CRKT fossil imo, but much lighter and thinner blade, and a great seeming edc. I realized the squeaking was from the liner lock rubbing against the blade and not the washers. And the pocket clip seems to be one of the best in my collection. Now if only it was deep carry and I had the bits to change it to tip down

I've always had hit or miss experiences with Kershaw knives. It's literally hit or miss. That said I just sold my last kershaw off, a USA model that was good but not great. It was a fine knife, but the one I owned before that I had to send back to kershaw because out of the box the liner lock wouldn't engage and the knife was unsafe. $6.95 in shipping and 6 weeks later it was good to go. Gave that one to a friend who is getting into knives, and she is enjoying it, but not as much as her other knives she just purchased.

That said, the spyderco's in the $40-60 range are light years better than what Kershaw offers in that range. I know you already said you went out and got one, but I'll drive it home, Spyderco all the way on this one. I'm actually considering a tenacious myself, even though my budget edc needs are more than met currently.

I had that same problem with my kershaw starter. I had to painstakingly file the liner lock down, and to only engaged if I use the flipper and not the thumbstud. Still way better than any mtech for the price, but stil sucks. I don't trust liners much but this tenacious actually seems very solid for a liner lock.

Anyone know offhand what size torx bits are needed for the tenacious? My hardware store in town had nothing that fit

Woah guys. Just another testament to the amazingness of victorinox. The eyeglasses screwdriver can take the screws out
