Spyderco P'kal review yet ??

Clip is ambi tip up.

My clip is in the "lefty" postion, but carried in the right front pocket. Emerson Wave is hooked on front of pocket.

Could I ask about the removable wave: What keeps it in place, and how is opening the blade using the conventional round hole?

If I remember correctly, the wave piece is threaded and screws into the blade. The Spyderco hole also makes for very easy and convenient opening.

I joined the Collector's Club some time ago to be sure to get one of these eagerly awaited honeys. Since then, I've spent a bloody fortune on other models, and I've gotten more band-aids from NGK than all the EMTs in NYC could ever need.

No regrets. I even got a Christmas card from Golden.

Mr. Glesser, thanks once again for your wonderful products.

I know Snarc and myself want the best end product that can be made.. Time is no matter for us. As many probably know we have a helluva time delivering Shivworks tools because we are always striving to put out the best product we can produce. If it aint right its not going to go out. Sal is doing much the same with this folder for sure.

Trace, I could not agree with you more. As far as I am concerned, this is life support equipment. You don't buy a parachute that was not throughly tested. I would not buy a dedicated defensive blade that hadn't received the same level of scrutiny.

Having said all that, I am SERIOUSLY jonesing to buy one of these beauties! :D

Really looking forward to the P'Kal  It's very high on my "Gotta Have" list. I'll probably end up with 2 or 3 of them.

I'm not trying to be critical in any way but I am perplexed at it taking so long to get it in the line up  . However I will admit that it's not your typical EDC either and for that reason I guess there were a lot of bugs to be worked out.

I am confident that General Glesser is doing his utmost. But I sure want one of those really bad. Make it 3 :D I got a feeling already that it is going to take the place of my G-10 Harpy that I carry as a sidekick. Who other than the Great Spyder Factory would dare introduce a knife with such a "NON-Conventional" design. Counting the days. Saving my pennies. It will be a welcome addition to my growing collection.

Gentlemen we appreciate your patience and interest in this collaborative effort. It's been rewarding for me personally and professionally and I can't think of a company I trust more than Spyderco to produce this tool. I'm carrying one right now in my pocket and absolutely trust my life to it, especially after touring the factory back in October of last year and seeing just what Spyderco puts into every knife design. I'm more impressed with Spyderco's product integrity than ever.

What exactly is this product? Well how about what it's not:

It's not a replacement for a handgun.

It's not a replacement for a fixed blade.

It doesn't ward off evil or magically deter criminal assault, nor will it really up your chances for winning if other more critical elements fail.

It's not a better fighting folder than any other.

The method used is not superior to any other except maybe regarding training efficiency in a normal person's available time compared to the chances of one ever having to use a folder for self defense. No knife or knife method has been shown to be significantly superior to any other and most people stop from knife wounds because they choose to. I'll take a firearm or heavy blunt instrument like a baseball bat any day of the week over a knife. Better yet, a Crown Victoria.

What this product is however is a fun, creative, collaborative effort in excellence to offer the public what they have asked for to the best of our capabilities. It's for the enthusiast. Do you need one? Nope. But if life were about nothing more than our needs then we wouldn't really have that much fun would we?

Thanks for the value you've brought to Spyderco and it's ELUs. I look forward to more innovations from you. Do you have a website showing off other work of yours?

I need one. Or at least it's fun to think that i need one at least. :D

I've been putting all my knife related purchases for the last year in anticipation of the P'kal. :) (no, really, i haven't bought any knives for a year... been too busy buying bike parts instead) :D

Definitely looking forward to the P'kal. Have found that I really like that style of blade handling. I especially appreciate Sal et. al., working to bring dedicated martial blades to to masses.

Mr. Glesser, when you say "The P'kal fits the hand well in two positions. The two that it was designed to fit." could you elaborate on those positions? I always thought it was designed for pikal grip and am curious to know what the other position is?

Great looking knife and I am looking forward to trying one out.

Thanks for the info. I would love to see from the people testing it pics of the knife in hand in the different grips. What are the chances of that?

IMHO, this knife will be the best SD folder--until the next nouvelle vague .

Assuming we can not carry a firearm, my understanding of SD knifework is thus: When we carry a blade for Self Defense, we are in essence preparing to react to ambush. This is because if we have any prior warning, we should avoid the threat. We do not presume to brandish a knife to deter an assault. We can not carry a knife in hand wherever we go.

Ideally, we would carry a short dagger on the belt, hopefully accessible with either hand. But as with firearms, this is often not possible. So we are left with a folding knife.

The P'Kal is designed to be grabbed and deployed in a style easily learned and difficult to defend against. I am personally grateful to South Narc, Trace Rinaldi, and Mr. Glesser for creating and making available this knife.

Bugs are gone, ball cages came in and work great. building them now.

Sorry it is taking so long, seems much of what we do takes longer than planned :o .

Thanx to S'narc & Trace for their help and patience. Actually, Eric took over the project and he's the one that is making it happen.

Trainer blades are being engineered at this time.

I have a friend who is a retired LAPD Cop that recently got shanked after confronting a "tagger" He got stabbed several times. His gun did little to help, but maybe a like response with a close-in tool could have changed that.
Maybe not, but this is what we are after. There is no light saber or silver bullet, just tools in the tool chest.
