SPyderco PM2 or Delica?

I agree that the PM2 has too much handle for a short blade. The choil reduces the cutting edge even more. Even with these gripes, I still like it although I don't carry it as much now that I have more variety to chose from (I'll usually take the Endura zdp over the PM2).

Here are some reference pictures, I wear size L gloves.

Here's a picture gripping it behind the choil and you can see the extra handle on top of my index finger and the choil serve no purpose for me in this grip:

On this picture you can see all the extra handle behind my pinky. Again, serves me no purpose:

Choked up and using the both the choil and thumb ramp, still extra handle sticking out:

which knife would you prefer if not the pm2 nor the delica because of blade handle ratio?

In that same range I would go Sage 1 for smaller size, or Native 5. Larger knife would be a Caly 3.5 (much slimmer) or Stretch (super blue coming soon).

I don't have many large spydercos, handles get kinda big with the choils. I have many small spydercos because I am more tolerant of the small/med spyderco blades and handles. Sage series and Caly 3 are my favorites in your price range.

I think that the best blade to handle ratio is on Caly3.5. Also I would take caly3.5 over Para2, Delica and Endura. I prefer knives with choil and caly3.5 is packing the same blade length like PM2 but in much slimmer package.

I agree, Caly 3.5 packs a longer blade than you would think by looking at it closed.

I think as an EDC size matters. Just choose your size that you prefer! That's what matters most!

the only thing is do you want to walk around with a pm2 as an edc? seems a little bulky compared to the delica as an edc in your pocket.

Certainly! Like I said, the Delica pales in comparison to the Para2. Either way there's no room for either in my rotation. I much prefer a Sebenza or an SnG. If I KNOW I'll be using a knife, which is often, I carry a fixed blade.

Between the Delica and PM2 I would go with the Para. If you like the size of the Delica, the Sage series is just about the same. Plus you get 4 different flavors. I would prefer Sages 1-3 over the Delica because I don't really like to carry lock backs. Also take into consideration handle material. Delicas are FRN or stainless mostly. G10 can be found on the Exchange but they are discontinued and kind of rare. Para2 is G10 and the Sages are carbon fiber, titanium, g10 and stainless and wood respectively. Here is a Sage 1 and Para 2.

We all have our preference but which ever you chose will be quality.

I own both the Super Blue Delica and the PM2 and love them both but I say go for the Delica SB since its a sprint run. Theres been a number of times that I skipped a sprint run knife then ended up wanting it a year or two later when the price had doubled or tripled.

I like the PM 2 and the Delica - each knife for its own needs. But that´s just me.

The Delica in general is a little smaller and not that broad like PM2. If broadness is a kind of matter for you.

If you should have to choose between the two - I´d go with the PM2 first and save some bucks for the Delica ;) Great knives, without a question.

I, personally prefer for "real" EDC the Delica more than the PM2. It just fits great in pocket and weights nearly nothing. The PM2 is not heavy in any way, but heavier and broader.

In the end it´s your choice.

Hmmm, probably the PM2 then....I'd love a Manix 2, but they are pretty damn hard to get into my country. Customs nicked a Manix 2 Lightweight from me earlier this year.

These are two very different knives so it comes down to what you want to use it for and what sort of materials you like. In general, the Delica is going to be smaller and lighter and the PM2 is going to be more rugged and well-built. For me, I would go with the PM2 because I love the blade shape, the forward choil, the oversized spyder hole, the compression lock, the G-10 scales and the phosphorous bronze bushings in the pivot. It opens so smoothly and locks up super tight. In a pair of jeans, it rides very comfortably and after getting a deep carry clip made for it, it completely disappears.

It's a tough choice, if you want something that is a superlight weight and discreete carry, I would go with the Delica. If you want as much knife for the money as you can get, go with the PM2. Honestly, the only problem with the PM2 is that once you get one, you'll want to get sprint versions since you enjoy it so much.

Personally, I like the blade to handle ratio of the Military.

But it is a big knife.

That said, it's slim enough for me to EDC pretty easily.

YMMV.

I recently picked up a PM2 and it's far too big for normal EDC purposes.

You're kidding, right?

I have at least 10 knives that I could use for EDC, the Para2 is the SMALLEST of this group. To me the Delica is downright tiny.

But for the comparison between them-
Size- the Para2 is larger. I have no problem carrying it clipped in my pocket. I have considered carrying a Delica as a second knife, dropped in my pocket.
Lock- the Para2 has a very innovative lock, the Delica is an ordinary lockback. I very rarely buy lockback knives because I need one-handed operation.
Material- the Para2 has G10 scales, all or most Delica's are FRN. FRN is simpler and cheaper. As a matter of taste I prefer G10
Price- the Delica is significantly cheaper, although not as cheap as FRN knives from many other manufacturers. The Para2 is higher, and very hard to find which drives the prices up too.

I recently picked up a PM2 and it's far too big for normal EDC purposes. It gets so much praise around the forums I had to try one for my one, but Im regretting the purchase now. :\

I'll probably sell it in the near future because I really dont see myself carrying it. So for my use, Delica > PM2.

The PM2 is too much of a knife when it comes to EDC in Urban Situations and I prefer the Delica VG10.

Do you guys wear skinny jeans??

plus you have more things to go wrong with the pm2, like the axis lock.

Couldn't be further from the truth.

I have both, and I find myself picking up the Delica far more often. The PM2 is a nice knife, but it is a bit on the larger side. The Delica is very slim and light, making it barely noticeable in pocket. It's not as robust as the PM2, but I've never found the Delica lacking for any of my EDC uses. If you don't mind the size, the PM2 does offer a larger blade, G10 handles, bushing pivot system, and compression lock. You really can't go wrong with either, but for my uses, the Delica actually suits me better.

I have both knives sitting in front of me. I have the G-10 Delica variant. I can absolutely see why people rave over the PM2. It is strong, light, slim, nice blade shape, excellent lock, great ergonomics, etc. However, if I am completely honest with myself, a Dragonfly will meet 99% of my EDC task. I find myself carrying and using the Delica more than the PM2. If I had to make a choice now, I would probably choose the Delica with Super Blue.

that was my biggest problem for a while, buying fun factor vs form and function. it's why I switched over to traditional and walk around with a Peanut that has a 2" blade. I keep all the one handers at home. And this is for my own personal EDC needs which is different for everyone and/or doesn't factor in fun factor. Fun factor for me would be a Techno, Sequel, Small Sebenza type knife which is too much knife for my everyday needs.
