Spyderco: Replace the plastic part?

Spyderco Manix 2: Replace plastic ball cage?

  • No, I did not replace it with a metal cage.

  • Yes, I replaced it with a metal cage.

  • Yes, I replaced it with a metal cage. Also, the plastic part ruins the knife.

  • I don't own the Manix 2, but I don't care about the plastic part.

  • I don't own the Manix 2, but I would certainly not want that part to be plastic.

Replace it with either metal or the current newer plastic ones that Spyderco makes. I really wouldn't advise you to keep using the older semi-clear plastic ones. Take it for what it's worth you've been told.

Like I said I replaced mine cause of the look/feel.

Do the research, there's more than that one thread. Spyderco forums even had a post verifying that spyderco changed the cage. Probably just a different compound is all.

All but 1 person stated the lock STILL worked... it was the small plastic rod that broke, there were even DIY threads showing how to use superglue or replacing the rod with metal.. the 1 that did not the knife was dropped on concrete, worked fine till he got home and 1 side of the cage was in his pocket, he opened it up and the other side fell off locking the blade open.
Every thread was the same, 2-3 people saying they have never heard of the problem, 2-3 saying it happened to them and spyderco replaced it.

I'm not saying it's an issue, it's rare it seems but it has happened. Simple search and you too can see the pics/threads.

As heavy as the knife is stock, I'm betting nobody can blindly tell the difference. As long as they are not allowed to feel the cage..
.03 Oz difference on the aluminum...

Again, replace it.. or don't, it doesn't matter. It's all preference. Odds of it actually breaking are slim.
