Spyderco Reveal 18

Maybe... but I don't know for sure. On one hand, the Reveals build hype. That's what every advertising executive wants.

For me, sometimes I'll see a cool knife in a Reveal, so I'll hold off buying a similar knife that was on my radar. The "other" knife is a lost sale.

I'm also an impulse buyer. I'll get excited about a knife in the Reveal and set up a pre-order. After many months of waiting, I'll realize that my enthusiasm has waned, and I'll cancel the order.

Neither of these scenarios really matters, though. I have enough knives and don't NEED more. I just buy something when it strikes my fancy. And I don't think Spyderco is hurting for sales. They're always sold out of plenty of different models.
It just seems like sometimes there's no consistency at all. And I understand that that can be the nature of the game. But sometimes it's many months before a product from the Reveal gets released. Rarely does knife hype last for months.

But I have already come to my senses and will probably pass on these new offerings at street price. Now I'm conditioned to "wait for the sale" that is probably coming. Again, if the black Police had been available to buy when I saw it, I would have ordered it.

I know Spyderco isn't hurting for sales, but they also value feedback from the end line user. It's great that Spydies STAY good, you know? They're worth buying and using even years after they are released so I'm sure that helps with the long term sales picture.

Just some morning musings for everybody, haha :) .

I feel ya, buddy. A $300 Chap is ludicrous, IMO. I actually laughed when I saw the price.
I agree but . . . here . . . allow me to make it seem inexpensive and "A DEAL" to jump at :
Remember when the Damasteel Urban , a few year ago now , back when knives were so much less expensive , was . . .
$480 !
I was speechless and SURE I didn't need one and yet people were pouncing on it like it was no big deal .
My mouth would hang open .
Must have been that word " ivory ' in the G-10 color description that did the trick .

Or years , and years .
At least it gives one a chance to save up and get excited.

I've been looking at the Leatherman Arc lately and that's when it really hit home. That's the top-of-the-range LM tool right now, with a Magnacut blade, and its $230. So, help me understand why we are paying so much for knives that do ONE thing. When you can pay $230 for a LM with a high-end steel that does 20 things.

Leatherman Arc weighs 8.6 ounces but you can do a lot more with it than the Chaparral Fat Carbon which weighs just 2.2 ounces.

Almost all knives are overpriced, in my opinion, but I still buy them. It seems most knives I want and buy are in the $400 range these days - folders and fixed blades. I am super excited about the Manix 2XL in Magnacut. I never thought I would see it because that model doesn't get much attention. I think its the best they make, and the Carribean and Police are right behind it. I'm ok with the price, and it seems like a bargain compared to some other Spydercos. I will buy at least 2. Now I just need a Salt Police and a Magnacut Carribean. I am really spoiled and I like it.

I would say to get what you can now because in a few years this will seem cheap.
