Spyderco Sage

LOOKS LIKE A WINNER!
I like the WIDE blade... choil, clip. Smaller than a large Seb. No bushing.
I read they are calling it a tribute to Chris Reeve(they have his blessing on this):)

It should be the same size as the first Sage.
I was comparing my Sage to my small Sebbe last night. The Sage is a good bit bigger. A little longer but a lot wider (not thickness, but from top to bottom). Overall a bigger knife. Somewhere between the large and small Seb.

Sal did a damn good job on this one. This is gonna be my next new Spydie. Haven't boughten one for a while since I've been so infatuated by my seb and axis locks.

I haven't bought a new (non-sebenza) knife in two years. I think this is it. I'm definitely feeling it.

Frame lock Spydie. Why cant this one be made in Golden?:thumbdn: Gonna gave to pass.

Nothing will ever appeal to everyone. Heck I'm left handed, so as far as I'm concerned the darn lock's on the wrong side. Strange part is, I still find this one a "must have". Damned if I know why.

Blade length is 3", weight is 98 grams (at least by my scale). Some will find that too big and others will dismiss it as too small. Some will complain it's too heavy and some will say it's not "substantial" enough for their tastes. Some will feel it's just right.

Materials are top shelf - S30V blade, 6Al4V titanium handle, and phosphor bronze washers. Workmanship is excellent. Some would prefer it to be made here. Others will feel all that change is the price tag, and not in a good way.

Some love wire clips, some hate them. Some will consider it worthwhile to have someone make a replacement clip. FWIW, I have a hunch the wire clip on the production version of the Sage RIL will be either longer or shorter than the one on the sample I was allowed the honor of photographing.

Some have already dismissed it out of hand for one reason or another, others are wishing it was available today instead of still being six months out. No right or wrong here, in the end it's your money, your choice.

Nice knife & thanks for the pics & info Paul .
Good suprise to find in your mailbox for sure.
I must say i like the sage & the idea of different locks/handles on the same basic design!

the made in Taiwan thing.

Not trying to change your mind, but Taiwan is a cosmopolitan, democratic, pro-western country. Not the same thing as communist mainland China, but you know that. Not America, thats true, but their interests align with America's. I only say that as my father in law had many business dealings in Taiwan, and in fact died there on a business trip - not that its a reason to buy a knife :). Anyway, our dealings with Taiwan were wholly positive, and there is a rational basis for not viewing them as "the bad guy", so to speak. Still, if one only buys American (which is almost impossible to do these days), then that settles it. JMO.

I was conceived in the US, but born on a military base in Taiwan. I don't feel any less American and I love my CF Sage. Can't wait for this one either.

They spent billions buying our patriot missiles. Least we can do is buy some knives. :)

This looks like the knife ive been waiting for.
Its ideal for me as its 100% what i was looking for in my next lock knife from lock to the size to the fact that its titanium and above all spyderco.
This looks like it could be a even better knife than the para IMO.
The only thing wrong is the fact that i have to wait 6 months before i can even try and get one.
I dont care were its made as i know spyderco dont except crap and never put out crap.
Its also gonna be cheaper as a result obviously again this is a plus in my opinion.
Im from the UK and have watched our home made products over time reduced to virtualy zero products that are fully UK made.
If we cant find ways of making money elsewere than manufacturing alone then things look bleak in the West IMO.
I would like to buy Home made products all the time but cost etc keeps me from buying them unless i need a certain type of product etc im willing to see the world as one big market place.
Which it is.

I've been carrying the CF Sage for a couple of weeks now and it's a great knife. The knife is made really well so the whole made in Taiwan thing doesn't bother me. I'll definitely be getting one of these when it's available.

To me, im sure that spyderco makes good knives in taiwan, however given the economic situation where china is buying up a lot of our debt, if we buy more made in china stuff because it is more affordable we are just losing more money instead of keeping it in our economy.
