Spyderco Sage

Chinese government says otherwise... heh

True, however, it still runs into the problem of us sending away our money to other countries when our economy is hurting.
I have a stable government job so I wont be hurt very much by this worsening economy. However I do know that many are and it is projected that this christmas wont have a good shopping season. Im thinking that rather than going and buying stuff made in other countries I will buy american to support the economy, to help businesses since I can. Because someone who is doing very badly in the economy wont be able to.
I dont know if i would equate it to a duty or obligation to support our economy, i feel as if it is a good thing to do.

Sorry, this is a little off the topic.

While I do like the Sage...my money is staying here in the states. If it doesn't say made in the USA I'm going to pass. There are lots of US made knives that are quality made, excellent warranty, and won't break the bank. Just my opinion.

What he said^^

I thought S30V models would be made in Golden, CO?

I may have to pass, the American economy is at it's worst since the great depression, and it pains me to support anything not American right now.

Plus it sucks when you go to show off your sweet knife and it says Made In Taiwan on it.

I'm not flaming Spyderco, I love my Military, UKPK, and Paramilitary, I am just not willing to support corporate outsourcing during these times.

Yeah, I know that feeling because I'm the one who looks at "foreign" knives and unknowingly makes a face no matter how hard I try not to. I too am a spyderco supporter, but the desings that I like just happen to be US made :o

Not trying to change your mind, but Taiwan is a cosmopolitan, democratic, pro-western country. Not the same thing as communist mainland China, but you know that.

You can say the same thing about Japan

It is a US ally, cosmopolitan, democratic, and pro-western country

And now because it seems a majority of Americans are buying Japanese cars and not American, Ford, GM, and Chrysler are all going under.

Well unless we bail them out with our tax dollars. Which we shouldn't have to do.

Hey guys, did we get moved from CRK to the Spyderco forum?

We might get a bit more resistance here about not buying foreign made knives, just a heads up.

Doesn't the profit go to Spyderco, which is an American company? Thus, by buying the Sage, wouldn't it help support the workers who ARE located in America?
And wouldn't the taxes paid on your purchase be kept in America?
It isn't like all the money is going directly to Taiwan.

Good discussion going on here, but I'd like to add something to the topic of cars.

Many Japanese brand cars are built in the USA by factories of US citizens. Just last week our department had a field trip to a Toyota plant in San Jose where they build Tundras and Corollas.

People in the US stopped supporting the big "3" because their products were years out dated and lacked severely in quality when compared to their Japanese rivals.

If I couldn't get a quality US knife, I'd get one from overseas.

But that said, we DO have quality US knives and for that we aught to be thankful! Also, a lot of the US companies use their outsourced lines to help keep profit up enough to continue selling their US made knives at all.

I sure wish Ford, GM, and Chrysler pull through. But their blundering has been so severe for so long that I doubt all three will last the decade. And what gets me is that Ford sells awesome cars, but they are all in Europe. Instead of retooling factories to make these products here, without having to import them and lose money to the weak dollar, they continue to crank out low quality cars that America doesn't need.

Current Focus < Euro Focus.

Ford Escape < Ford Kuga

Ford Flex = :-(

Its funny, just about everyone I know here in Taiwan who carrys a knife carrys a US made knife.

You would think it was just a one way flow the way some of you guys go on about it

Sounds like theres going to be plenty avalible then which suits me down to the ground.
Hopefully by the time it comes out the pounds back up again to exceptable levels against the dollar.
Seen as everyone of my knives is made abroad all i care about is quality and price.

i recently purchased a carbon fiber scale version. really nice knife. textured scales add extra grip. the thumb hole's a little sharp, but no big deal. a must have!

cheers :)

That's not uncommon on any Spyderco. Sal feels smoothing the edges of the Spyderhole makes it easier for your thumb to slip. I agree with him in principle, but in practice I've been known to clean them up a bit on my users, at least on models with larger (13mm or 14mm) Spyderholes.
