Spyderco Sharpmaker Ceramic Rods from Hell. Unlucky? 3 times in a row?

Hi iMarcoU,
Apologies for your disappointment. Your experience with the Tri-Angle Sharpmaker is certainly well outside the norm. We would definitely like to take a look at the Tri-Angle Sharpmakers that you received. I understand that you have decided to return them to your retailer. We hope they'll in-turn return them to our Distributor there and they'll make their way back to us here.

As to your experience with our Warranty & Repair department; it's true our standard is that we must receive an item to review it and make a judgment. There is no "repair" for the stones so if we had received the stones here we likely would have just replaced them with a pair hand-picked by our crew. We understand the challenge of shipping internationally, but unfortunately due to the high volume of counterfeits that we've seen/received we just can't make a judgment based on pictures. We truly wish we could - it would make everything a lot easier for everyone but with abundant counterfeits we would experience a serious financial hardship. Many counterfeits look just like legitimate Spyderco products - particularly in images. It's not until we handle them that we can determine they are in fact counterfeit products.

The counterfeit market (and yes, it is a market - we've become aware of consumers who strongly support counterfeiters) has far reaching consequences that most people don't see.

If you haven't already shipped your Tri-Angle Sharpmaker back to your retailer we would appreciate the opportunity to review it here. Regardless though, we do apologize for your inconvenience and frustration.

Hi Kristi,

Thanks for you're reaction. But I rather choose to send it back to the reseller to choose an other sharpening system. I truly believe the Sharpmaker is capable of great results, and I achieved them with the Sharpmaker. But after this experience, 3 sharp makers later, I hope you understand I think it is best to try something else.

The pictures were not for the Sharpmaker, I understand that you will replace the rods when I send them in, but the pictures was aimed at my Delica that was damaged by the rods, and due to that fact not my fault that it's damaged.

Anyway thanks for your reaction.

I will still enjoy you're knives! Just bought a manix 2 anyway. But in the future I will sharpen them with something else than the Sharpmaker :-)

Greetings

Well, when it comes to the point when i will have to flat out my new out of the box ceramic stones with a diamond sharpening stone, I will not buy Spyderco stones anymore. Yes and at this point I am now, no way I will fuck up DMT stones to flat out Sharpmaker stones. They can keep the stones for themselves.

Hi ImarcoU,

Sorry for your disappointment. We've not experienced this much in the 38 years we've been making the Sharpmaker. We have an agent in the Netherlands. I can ask Jurphass to contact you? I would not recommend that you use your diamond stone on the ceramic. It will screw up both the ceramic and the diamond.

Hi Sal!

Thanks for your reaction! I will not use diamond stones on the ceramic stones. I've already had contact wit Knivesandtools (the reseller) to send it back and they will give me a replacement.

I'm very sorry, but as much as I like the Sharpmaker, I am going for another sharpening system this time.

I will still buy your knives because they're just awesome :-) but will sharpen them in the future with something else.

Your agent can contact me if he wants, that's no problem at all.

Thanks

We're still trying to get it back here. The dealer says he has it, and got it back from you, but it's not here yet. He tried to give it to our distributor for a replacement, but he didn't purchase it from our distributor. It was purchased gray market so the distributor didn't feel it proper to service the dealer. When it gets here, I'll look at it myself. I was surprised to learn it was the brown stone and not the white stone you were having trouble with. Since the brown stone is friable, it is confusing.

Just wanted to know if you already had the sharpmaker.
