spyderco sharpmaker .... not impresed help me love this thing

Cover the sharpmaker rods with sandpaper? What grit/type?

Most who've done it, have used wet/dry (silicon carbide) sandpaper, such as from 3M or Norton. Anything from 220 grit and up. Depending on the steel and how much metal needs to come off, the 220-400 range usually works for re-bevelling.

Crocket20 on YouTube has a decent little video on sandpapering the Sharpmaker. I'm sure others do. I used 100 grit to reprofile some super dull Cutco kitchen knifes for a friend. Worked pretty well for me. Maybe that's too coarse, but y'know. YMMV and such.
