Spyderco Slyz Bowie or Hinderer XM-18 Bowie?

The Slyz will cut better and the Hinderer will do everything else better. I would get the Hinderer, lol

Because it's freaking awesome.

I like the Hinderer largely because of its look, and because it is a flipper. The Slyz strikes me as the superior cutter, and I honestly do not believe it gives up anything to the Hinderer when it comes to fit and finish. I have handled both, but I appreciate any feedback .
.

Gonna go against the grain and suggest the Slysz. Great slicer. Carries nice and slim. Incredibly smooth action. I also like the reversible pocket clip, as a lefty.

They both has pretty much equally fit and finish. In fact, Slyz might have an edge over XM-18 due to the radiused Ti frame which very rare and hard to do for production knife. Slyz will cut much better while XM-18 is heavier/stronger.

I bet that the Slyz would be super expensive if it were made by a smaller outfit than Spyderco. Part of me says by the Spyderco because they discontinue so many models, but I also love the ruggedness of the XM-18.

The XM-18 may be a bit rougher, but all around it's a better functioning knife. If you're buying this to use, get the Hinderer. If you're buying to collect, get the Spyderco.

I like the profile of the XM-18 Bowie, the tip really excels at finer work. They both have nice belly for slicing. The Hinderer also has somewhat better ergos.

I love XM-18s and only have the PM2, but I have handled the Slysz Bowie, and I would pick that for my uses.

The XM-18 is a very thick knife and a great all-purpose work knife. I always carry a slipjoint for slicing when I carry a 3.5" XM-18.

The Slysz Bowie was very nice and thin handled, and I love the blade shape. It is undoubtedly a better slicer.

The XM-18 might be more fun to have, and you can take it down and do your own maintenance on it (this is a huge plus for me), while the Slysz Bowie has the Spyderco warranty that will cover any defects, but prevents an end-user from disassembling the knife.

Despite all this, I think I would take the Slysz Bowie, mostly because I don't like the Hinderer Bowie blade shape and because the finish on the Slysz is just great. If this were Slysz v. Hinderer Slicer/Spanto/Spearpoint, I would absolutely pick the Hinderer.

Having both, the Hinderer has fantastic build, but can be a little large for EDC carry, depending on where you're living. The slyz is a great cutter, very slim profile as well. If you're looking to get hard use out of it though, I would go with the Hinderer.

I vote for Hinderer.

I really like Spyderco, and picked up a K2 (which showed up the exact same day as my Hinderer :) ), but did not bother getting the Slysz Bowie, then or later. It just does not appeal to me for some reason.
Part of that might be my general dislike for the wire clip...just don't like them that much.

I have, use, and love both. The Hinderer is more "stout", the Slysz is a far better slicer. As far as fit/finish, again the Slysz is superior. The Hinderer may be "funner" with it's dress-up potential. I carry the Slysz a lot more, except in the winter.

if i wanted to save a hundred plus bucks.......... the spyderco. if i didn't......... the hinderer bowie. that's me though.

Hinderer, and here's why.
While I think the Slysz is a fantastic knife, aesthetically and functionally, its going to be like all other Slysz bowies out there, unless you void warranty by anodizing or modding in some way. I dont much like the wire clip either.
With Hinderer, you can readily buy almost any part (factory Hinderer parts, mind you) in several different materials and colors. There are so many options with XMs to make them uniquely yours. RHK also doesnt care if you disassemble. Hell, they even manufacture and sell the tool to do it. And theyre just badass, IMHO.
