Spyderco Southard

Why did Spiderco put that ugly unnecessary lanyard hole on this beautiful knife?
 
Can anyone confirm if the liner on the G10 side Titanium or Steel? I really really hope it's TI, it would open so many more doors as far as anodizing goes.

I received a Southard recently and echo any accolades of superb quality. The knife is so good that it begs the question of why someone should move up to more expensive flippers.
