Spyderco Suggestions

I would get a southard and be done with the spyderco search.

These knives are absolutely amazing.

The Endura was my first Spyderco and my edc for several years.
The PM2 is the most often carried knife in my edc rotation now.

PM2, Endura, Southard, Slysz Bowie, Military (for larger hand-size). The Millie is a "larger" PM2-type.

The Gayle Bradley 1 or GB2 are both wonderful examples in CPM-M4 blade-steel. So many nice choices...

I'm sure you've heard this a million times, but that is the neatest Southard scale I have ever seen. Who did it?

Thanks so much for the compliment.

I got it off etsy, it's like eBay and Amazon combined. But it's for custom made items. Anyone can sell or buy all kinds of awesome stuff on it.

The store is called KnockWoodBlades, I will post a link below.

The owner is in the process of moving his shop so theirs not much on his page to buy now. But you can scroll through his already sold item to see some of his beautiful work.

His scales are affordable, and super well made. He can custom make you what you want

Hope this helps Brad.

The PM2 is a great knife. IMHO one of the places where Spyderco really shines is with their back lock knives. The 3 I use most often are a Pac Salt in H1 when I am on the water or at work (I work outside in humid SW FL) due to it's corrosion resistance. A Stretch in HAP40; great ergos and a nice steel. It was a Sprint run but you can still find them. And a Delica. You cannot get the whole Spyderco "thing" without handling a Delica. For me absolutely phenomenal ergonomics, it just becomes part of my hand. I particularly like the ZDP-189 version with British Racing Green scales and/or the Hap40. If I had to have only 1 Spyderco it would be the Delica. I think many of us go through the buying the more expensive Spydercos phase and gradually realize the value and utility of their less costly models.

Spyderco suggestions? My suggestion is yes. If you find one you like the look of and the price you pretty much can't lose. So it would be more about what you're looking for. Fancy and pretty, small and light, robust and tough. I've yet to get a spyderco that wasn't great. My personal favorites are the dragonfly and manix models.

How do you like the lock vs axis lock?
The ball bearing lock is not nearly as much a pleasure as the axis lock IMO, but it is a phenomenal lock none the less. Takes a more deliberate pull, but many might consider that a plus even. I love the ball bearing lock, but it does not beat the axis in ease of operation.

TBH, I don't really have a specific usage in mind. Anywhere from EDC to tactical. It seems spyderco (in comparison) to ZT is on the slimmer and lighter. How do you like that domino? I still have multiple ZT's and a few BM's that I primarily use and honestly can't see me switching... But I have to give the spydie hole a chance haha.
The spydie hole is the only way to go.

I gotta say if my first Spydie was a PM2 or Manix2 I would not be disappointed! Though do not go into the CBBL thinking it will be anything like the axis lock. It is very different and has a much stronger spring.

If tactical use is a possibility and you march to a different drummer, I'd suggest the still readily available but now discontinued Ulize. This model fulfills the same role as the iconic but commonplace Police but with a bit more style. The traditionalist streak in you will also appreciate the tried-and-true Al Mar mid lock. Also, even a new one won't set you back big bucks. And think about it, imagine all the fun you'll have explaining its history (and the pronunciation of "Ulize") to all your friends, relatives or workplace buddies!

I would consider a Native 5. The ergo's are perhaps Spyderco's best IMO. The PM2 as others have said is just a damn good knife too.

I recommend the Manix, Southard flipper, Vollotton sub hilt. I'm also partial to the Nirvana if you have the coin and want a sweet integral.

I'm not a PM2 fan, but they're good blades. I have one in S35VN. Can be customized like no other Spyderco.

Techno - Tough little knife. The little brother to the Slysz Bowie. Build quality is the best spyderco offers IMHO.
