Spyderco,taking on a new road?

I see your point but I disagree. The byrd line is a great value. There are quite a few cheap spydies that also deliver very high value. Those have been around forever and aren't going away.

I think of the classic spyderco line starting with the ladybug and ending around the PM2/military. After that the price goes up with less material value, but more collector value. You start paying more for exotic steels and handle material. There might be more difficult manufacturing related to those materials. Big designers who collaborated take a cut. Spyderco doesn't make as much money off these specials as a large production run. There is a demand by the diehard fans and collectors, and they are nice enough to take some risks to keep them happy.
