Hi, today while I was using my spyderco tenacious, the blade got loose, so I thought to use my allen key to tighten the pivot screw, as I was tightening it, it got over tightened, and the screw got dulled. Now my overtightened blade cant be loosened because the screw got dulled, anybody have any ideas about how to fix this?

Name,
I believe the tenacious uses a "torx" type fastener on their pivot.
You may have stripped out the outer edges with your "allen" wrench but you still might be able to adjust it with the propper TORX wrench.

And by the way, Welcome to Bladeforums.com
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

^This. I know it definitely uses Torx, I'm pretty sure it's size 8.

I've used allens to tighten up torx before, but it was just pocket clips. I eventually got a mini screwdriver kit and forgot about the allens. If you need to use metric, its a bit bigger than standard if you aren't going to get torx or you need the knife ASAP. Maybe think about switching out that torx and bringing it to a hardware store for an allen replacement? Advice as above though, don't use allens for torx as if you can use phillips instead of a flathead.

Allen and torx isn't the same. Best is to send your knife back to Spyderco

The pivot screw on my Tenacious is definitely a hex/allen type. It's harder to tell with the other screws; they look more like hex/allen screws, but I suppose could be very poorly defined torx screws.

Nope, it definitely is an Allen screw and not a Torx on the Tenacious.

Looks like an allen to me. Are you using standard(ex. 8mm) or metric(ex. 5/8")?

then what should I do with my dulled pivot screw? It wouldnt loosen because my allen key wont fit it anymore

If you are positive that it is the correct size.. Then pair up a flat head that might fit.. it has worked for me in the past...
And call spyderco for a new screw...

OK ...This is REAL WEIRD  The pivot bolt is a "hex" head ... I tried the metric hex and the standard hex. Both are loose and the proper size, but I did use the T-8 torx and it fit in the pivot perfect with no problem???

The only thing I can suggest ... Like others have already stated, is to try the torx T-8 and hopefully it will sink in deep enought to catch the deep edges so you can loosen up the blade. Hope this helps some ;). Keep us updated to this "little mystery". Take Good Care and Be Safe Always.

God Bless :)

Are you sure its Torx-8? Because I looked into the hex head, and there wasn't any star shaped sides at all. All I see is 6 flat sides, and every Allen wrench I used always slipped right out... very frustrating...

Eventually I will just have a mental breakdown and just make + upload a video on youtube of me just screwing the Tenacious pivot with the Torx 8 bit from my BM Blue Tool Box :P

It looks like a hex head and everything, but using the torx8 fits and works perfectly O.o Maybe this is an elaborate Spyderco joke that is just being discovered? :P

Hey Name I just went upstairs and looked at my tenacious it is definately an allen/hex head screw. Looks like all the screws in the tenacious are.
But what rook is saying is take a t8 torx bit and use it and see if it will grab the edges of the screw and loosen it up.
