Photos Spyderco Tenacious (Real or Counterfeit?)

There are 2 screw holes that would block the knife if the clip were affixed in different positions. They don’t look like the size Spyderco uses, and the big one underneath the blade(I can’t remember what it’s called at the moment) doesn’t look right either. But I don’t own a tenacious, so there are probably 10 or 20 glaring mistakes that I didn’t spot.

Now that somebody pointed it out, I can see the jimping is way off—too rounded and amateurish.

perhaps there should be pictorial sticky thread on how to ID fakes of popular knives? granted, it might be too late for whoever bought one already, but checking it out might prevent future buys.

A lot of times the price is your first clue. If it seems to good to be true.....and all that.;)

The seller wanted to give me a $8 partial refund and let me keep the knife instead of returning it, haha. Elevated it to a full refund.
You made the right choice! Report his fake selling a$$!

ETA: Give him negative feedback too.

That is outrageous! Pay half price for a fake (branded)knife?

Here is a pic of an authentic Tenacious from Blade Headquarters. Notice the Bug and the jimping.

To me the coating on the blade in the picture didn't look right looked more like paint these look more like a coating.

Some of you doubt there are even fake tenacious? Let me try this. The coated Spyderco tenacious sells for $48 currently. It costs perhaps less than $10 to manufacture a fake. That is nearly 400% profit.

They’ll get more customers selling lower priced counterfeits since nobody is falling for the $30 sebenza!

I do understand this, but I've been handling knives for a while, and while price is an easy way to figure it, it is not so obvious for new people getting into the hobby. They just see a great bargain and get suckered in.

True, but at the same time, it doesn't take much effort these days to see what they normally sell for or find an MSRP. Or MAP.

The Teflon washers and button head screws are an instant give away. And yea, that logo is all sorts of wrong.

I thought of what I think could be a plausible theory.
It's common knowledge that corruption is rampant in China. Spyderco is probably willing to accept a 2% scrap rate. What ultimately happens to that scrap? Maybe it gets sold into the black market and they just assemble however many they can make and fake the logos or lettering, whatever it needs, and off to eBay it goes!
