Photos Spyderco Tenacious (Real or Counterfeit?)

I thought of what I think could be a plausible theory.
It's common knowledge that corruption is rampant in China. Spyderco is probably willing to accept a 2% scrap rate. What ultimately happens to that scrap? Maybe it gets sold into the black market and they just assemble however many they can make and fake the logos or lettering, whatever it needs, and off to eBay it goes!

It’s more likely a copy or two could be stolen by a dishonest employee, but I seriously doubt Spyderco lets any knife blanks or parts onto any scrap pile. Dimes to donuts they melt the blanks and crush any handles that are damaged or less than perfect.

Or that's what's "supposed" to happen?
Just seems to me that would be a worthwhile way to fake a budget knife.

I don’t know because I’m not there, but companies that don’t sell seconds usually have very tight security regarding discards. I’ve seen products be completely destroyed at assembly plants which had a brand reputation for impeccable quality. Counterfeiters would have their customers believe the product was stolen or fallen off a truck, but the truth is likely more mundane. They probably work off pictures available online, or at best an actual knife bought somewhere like Hong Kong, Taiwan or Singapore. I don’t know if Spyderco retailers serve the Chinese mainland.

These ones are manufactured in China. Some I think by Sanrenmu.

They lied that's crazy. Dishonest seller.

Sanremu is Spyderco’s Chinese manufacturer? I had heard them mentioned before; of course intellectual property isn’t really a “thing” in China, or so I’ve read.

That's the impression I have. If so, all bets are off on scrap destination.;)

I seriously doubt that Sanrenmu is behind that fake. If they make the legit knife under contract, then it would make sense that they would use the existing tooling to make the fake exactly the same. This fake is just incredibad. There have been fake Tenacious out there for quite some time. I saw them years ago on the bay for like $10 shipped. This one has visible grind lines through that scrappy coating which is the wrong shade of black.

I’ve seen better quality fakes listed for $30. I don’t think Sanremu makes counterfeits under the Spyderco name or any particular other name, but nobody can stop other Chinese companies from copying tech from this or any company manufacturing in China.

But how do they make them basically for free so that they can make maximum profit on a budget line knife? I call shenanigans!;)
It's just a pet theory based on my own experiences with manufacturing. I sure would like to hear @Sal Glesser 's thoughts on the subject though!

Avoid ebay and Amazon and buy from only authorized dealers ... Ebay and Amazon have the most chances of getting fakes and it happens alot. Especially with spyderco. Spyderco has taken them to court but they wouldn't fix the problems.

Personally I buy many watches from The Exchange but I’ve also bought from AD’s and Amazon. Never an authenticity issue with any of the three. Just show caution. By the way I’ve also bought a CRK from eBay. It’s not hard to determine a good seller.

Gee, you guys are sharp! I was like, what's wrong with it? Then I took out my Spyderco Tenacious, followed the thread, cross-checked with everything you guys have pointed out, and now I'm assured that mine is legit (it should be - the 8Cr13MoV steel is great on this one and if it were a fake, it should be rather crappy steel). The screws, the jimping, the bug logo and the washers.

And I don't see why there won't be fake Tenacious...es. Considering Ganzo rips off the Ontario RAT Model 1, an even more affordable knife than the Tenacious, they do seem to be trying to copy everything rather than just expensive knives. I guess it's quantity over quality for these fu...fakers.
