Spyderco- the working man's knife

I thought many of my nicest, custom Spydies would be safe queens, no. Gotta bring em out!

I have one BM, the 3V Pukko and pretty much already belongs to my fiance but, I like it. Spydie folders are plenty tough.

The Advocate, Police 4 serr, Native Chief, Native 5, Dragonfly Wharnie K390 and Matriarch 2 are some of my most carried.

Has it been the same 110 throughout those years? I've recently taken a shine to that knife and would love to see photos!

Anyway, relevant to the thread: The combo edge Endura 4 is the best all-around work knife on the market!
I had 2 one for work one for play. When I realized the work one’s lock was worn out. Goggle led me here. It’s the reason I joined here to warn others that 110 locks can wear out.

I ended up sending them in, with a broken 111 I bought on ebay. They are all still working.

See post 5 for the whole story.

Yup. Sodbuster, Opinels, SAKs too. I can think of dozens of alternatives before I get to Spy and BM.

Even ignoring such factors as weight and steel, why would you ever choose a work knife you can’t open one handed? If I was going to use a knife multiple times a day, you’re darn sure I’d pick something I could operate one handed (and ideally with gloves on).

I think the variable here is the definition of working man. If, like me you sit on your ass staring at a monitor pecking a keyboard all day then sure a Spyderco is fine. But if you require work attire that involves say, a hard hat, work boots and some sort of power and/or hand tools I’d think you might prefer something a little more heavy duty.
A bigger Spyderco?

I can open my 110 safely with one hand, and it is one of the reasons I carry it. I went looking for my Spiderco knife, to post a picture but it is MIA.

Here to help.

On contray - most knife guys I know keep their spydies in a safe...

Most knife guys do that with every brand. ;)

I broke the tip off my Spyderco Fluted Titanium handle Military while aggressively carving a square hole into a piece of Hawthorne for a project I was working on. All I did was put a new tip on it and keep using it. :)

Also had the tip break off my ZT 0392PURBLKWC earlier in the week when boring a hole into antler from the side. The hole was going a tad off center with the other regular tip blade I had been using, so I figured a Wharncliffe would allow me to get in there and correct things. Put a new tip on it as well afterward.

My brother used his Spyderco Mini Manix as a work knife for a number of years. He did things with it that knives should not be used for. Didn't even lose the tip on it along the way...sure got dull as hell though, and I sharpened it a few times for him.

What make a knife a "working man's knife" is the person using it.

I mod and use the crap out of my spydies. If I can’t use a knife at work as an electrician then I always end up getting rid of it. I’ve tried so many different brands but Spyderco ends up being superior for my uses image.jpg

I find it funny. You give Spyderco the title of "Working man's knife"... But then only have Spyderco and Benchmade as options to praise...

Give me a brand that's all of their knives can't be used as working knife (of course barring some obvious mall ninja shit).

Do you still have the Ronin 2 for sale?
