Spyderco Tuff: 5 months use.

Nice work. Question on exposure to blood: how carefully and how promptly did you clean the blood off the blade? Did you see any corrosion? Blood is one of the best oxidizers  that I know of.

As per my original post, I cleaned the knife when I came in from a shoot, often 3-4hrs exposure to blood. In similar situations I have noticed staining on K294, Superblue and O1. No staining on the 3V so far. I would suggest it is somewhere between M4 and D2 for corrosion resistance (one of my M4 blades stained after blood contact -see my Manix II M4 review.)

Fantastic review! Honestly one of the best I've ever seen on the forum. You did yourself and the rest of us a favor giving it such a workout before writing the review.

The only thing that has kept me from purchasing this blade has been it's unconventional design, however your review puts those concerns to rest.

Thanks to your GREAT review, I have a TUFF coming to me in the mail. Your review is one of the best I've seen, and obviously gives one plenty of helpful information about the usefulness of this design and blade-steel. I'm sure that Spyderco is also proud.

Excellent review - still not a big fan of this one for some reason, but it looks well made and you did a great job putting it through its paces.

By the way that ladle you made is amazing. Was that done exclusively with the Tuff and sandpaper?

Wow! I can tell you took some time on this review. :)
I came close to buying one, but that big fuller kinda turned me off.
I keep it in the back of my mind, though. I like how big and beefy it looks.
Excellent review.

No, the bowl hollowing and concavities were done with crook knife, gouges etc.

I'll take it!

Oh wait, wrong section... :D;)

Great review xavier, this definitely helped with my decision on buying a Tuff and one should arrive within the next week or two; I'm really excited to get it and try it out on some tougher tasks!

This is a fine review. I love that it is based on real world use. Destructive tests or simply cutting cardboard say little about actually using a knife day in and out.

Yup. Too often knife reviews are just superficial "overviews" of the subject knife and not really indicative of true performance.

Sorry to get to the party late. Schemp is a favorite designer of mine. My question: At this price point, would you recommend it over the ZT 0560. All things being equal, another hard use folder in Elmax steel. Like the tuff, over built as well.

I tend to like larger folders due to my large hands. I have a job in the city. White shirt and trousers attire. I bought a bm 940 for edc I want it to be low profile,-out of sight, out of mind type philosophy. Unfortunately, my wife thought it was perfect and it's hers. I was leaning towards the bm 810, zt 550, or zt 560. However, after reading your outstanding review, I am re-evaluating my decision. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Great review - and good work on the ladle! It seems to me you would greatly benefit from a machete or kukri for all that brush. But I guess the Tuff will do in a pinch! ;)

i have to agree with everyone else, that was a very excellent review. this is the kind i like to read. i use mine for anything and everything but, i don't carry a camera to document the work i do. i should but, i know i'd break it. thanks!

Really nice detailed review. I am going to get one based on the review. Thanks!
